AIMS: Carbohydrate counting enables flexible prandial insulin dosing in type 1 diabetes but remains cognitively demanding. Concerns persist that such sustained attention to food may contribute to disordered eating behaviors. The primary aim of this study was to examine whether carbohydrate-counting knowledge is associated with disordered eating behaviors.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study (NCT07021456) was conducted online. Participants completed questionnaires assessing carbohydrate-counting knowledge (Gluciquizz), disordered eating behaviors (DEPS-R), and likely eating disorders (SCOFF-F)

Individuals with highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM) represent a rare population with the exceptional ability to recall autobiographical information with remarkable precision and detail. While research has begun to explore the neural mechanisms underlying this extraordinary memory performance, the role of brain oscillations has not yet been investigated in HSAM individuals. Here, we studied three individuals with HSAM and compared their results with 16 controls. We asked all participants to retrieve newer and older autobiographical memories (AMs) while their electroencephalogram (EE

Latina adolescents and emerging adults navigate conflicting appearance ideals, balancing the "Latina curvy ideal" with Eurocentric thinness standards that contribute to body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and emotional distress. Few culturally tailored interventions have been developed or evaluated specifically for Latina youth, particularly in ways that directly center their lived experiences and adaptation priorities. The mind.body.voice (m.b.v.) curriculum is a near-peer-led program integrating cognitive dissonance, contemplative practices, and community action to counter harmful appea

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer face high levels of depression and anxiety. Yet developmentally appropriate and cancer-informed mental health services remain limited. Digital cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) programs may help address known access barriers, but many lack the tailoring and engagement needed for meaningful retention of AYAs with cancer. Mind Your Total Health (MYTH) was partially tailored to reflect AYA cancer experiences. This study explored how AYAs perceived their experiences with MYTH and offered recommendations for refinements related to feasibi

Many research questions-particularly those in environmental health-do not involve binary exposures. In environmental epidemiology, this includes multivariate exposure mixtures with nondiscrete components. Causal inference estimands and estimators to quantify the relationship between an exposure mixture and an outcome are relatively few. We propose an approach to quantify a relationship between a shift in the exposure mixture and the outcome-either in a single timepoint or longitudinal setting. The shift in the exposure mixture can be defined flexibly in terms of shifting one or more components

As a core component of negative affectivity, high trait anxiety (HTA) elevates the risk of the onset of affective disorders through impaired emotion regulation processes. However, its underlying neural mechanisms remain unclear due to methodological constraints. This study addressed these gaps by integrating event-related potential (ERP), nonlinear analysis, and machine learning (ML), while controlling for emotion regulation strategy use habits. We recruited 33 college students with HTA and 30 with low trait anxiety (LTA), who performed cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression during e

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) affect up to 1 in 15 people, significantly impairing daily function and quality of life. Despite clinical guidance recommending a biopsychosocial approach, treatment remains largely biomedical, often relying on occlusal splints or invasive procedures with limited evidence. This study describes a patient-centred, supported, self-management intervention for TMDs co-developed with patients, and its implementation into clinical practice.
METHODS: The intervention was co-developed with patients through syntheses of systematic reviews, qualitative rese

As automated technology advances rapidly, human employees' fear of being replaced (i.e., technology-induced job insecurity) has become a widespread stress in today's workplace. It is crucial for organizations to recognize this new technological challenge and address its impact appropriately. Therefore, to systematically understand its impacts and explore potential buffering factors, the present research conducts a systematic review and meta-analysis of 96 studies (N = 43,104 individuals). Drawing on the tripartite response model, we classify their outcome variables into three broad categories

Sustainable human resource management focuses on creating work systems that support long-term employee effectiveness, knowledge use, and innovation while protecting cognitive resources. This study uses the Conservation of Resources theory to explore whether strategic laziness, deliberately saving mental energy by choosing tasks carefully, encourages innovative work behavior (IWB). The research used structural equation modeling to test a moderated mediation model. Results show that strategic laziness does not have a significant direct effect on IWB (β = 0.071, p = 0.112). Instead, it works indi

Sudden gains are associated with better acute and follow-up outcomes in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for mood and anxiety disorders. Using the group CBT for seasonal affective disorder (CBT-SAD) condition (n=88) from a parent randomized clinical trial, this study examines whether sudden gains can be detected in CBT-SAD and whether they relate to outcome at post-treatment and at follow-ups one and two winters later. Applying Kelly et al.'s (2005) criteria to week-to-week symptom changes [i.e., scores on the Structured Interview Guide for the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression-Seasonal A

Introduction: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the disorders that persists in adulthood and poses unique challenges in high-demand professions like medicine. While existing literature often frames ADHD through a deficit-based lens, the lived experiences of medical students and professionals with ADHD remain underexplored. Methods: This study employed transcendental phenomenology to investigate the lived experiences of 13 medical students and professionals diagnosed with ADHD in Türkiye. I conducted semi-structured interviews between February and April 2025 via Zoom. I

A diagnosis of advanced breast cancer (ABC) can be life-altering, presenting challenges that extend far beyond the clinical domain. Among these challenges is the ability to continue or return to work, a decision often influenced by financial necessity, social support, and the psychological desire for normalcy. Yet, systemic barriers such as treatment-related side effects, physical and cognitive impairments, and workplace stigma frequently hinders people with ABC from maintaining employment. The right to work is fundamental to dignity, independence, and quality of life, but for people with ABC

Substance use disorders (SUDs) remain a major public health challenge, exacerbated by limited access to care, low treatment engagement, and the disruption of services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mobile phone applications (MPAs) offer a scalable mechanism for delivering behavioral health interventions; however, existing apps suffer from low engagement, limited methodological rigor, and inflexibility for research and clinical adaptation. This article presents Senyo, a proof-of-concept virtual treatment and research platform designed to support individuals with SUD while enabling systematic eva

The ventral frontal cortex (VFC) in macaques is involved in many affective and cognitive processes and has a key role in flexibly guiding reward-based decision-making. VFC is composed of a set of anatomically distinct subdivisions that are within the orbitofrontal cortex, ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, and anterior insula. In part, because prior studies have lacked the resolution to test for differences, it is unclear if neural representations related to decision-making are dissociable across these subdivisions. Here we recorded the activity of thousands of neurons within eight anatomically

Neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinosis (NCLs) are a group of severe neurodegenerative conditions, most likely present in infantile, late infantile, juvenile, and adult-onset forms. Their phenotypic characteristics comprise eyesight damage, reduced motor activity and cognitive function, and sometimes tend to die in the initial stage. In recent studies, NCLs have been categorized into at least 14 genetic collections (CLN1-14). CLN2 gene encodes Tripeptidyl peptidase 1 (TPP1), which affects late infantile-onset form. In this study, we retrieved a mutational dataset screening for TPP1 protein from various

Working memory-the brain's ability to internalize information and use it flexibly to guide behaviour-is an essential component of cognition. Although activity related to working memory has been observed in several brain regions1-3, how neural populations actually represent working memory4-7 and the mechanisms by which this activity is maintained8-12 remain unclear13-15. Here we describe the neural implementation of visual working memory in mice alternating between a delayed non-match-to-sample task and a simple discrimination task that does not require working memory but has identical stimulus

Flexible switching between different tasks is an important cognitive ability for humans and it is often studied using the task-switching paradigm. Although the neural mechanisms of task switching have been extensively explored in previous studies using event-related potentials techniques, the activity and process mechanisms of non-phase-locked electroencephalography (EEG) have rarely been revealed. For this reason, this paper discusses the processing of non-phase-locked EEG oscillations in task switching based on frequency-band delineation. First, the roles of each frequency band in local brai
