A novel method for the determination of tetracyclines (TCs) using electrochemiluminescence (ECL) based on a Ru(bpy)3(2+)-doped silica nanoparticles (RuSiNPs)/Nafion film modified electrode is presented in this paper. The RuSiNPs were prepared by a water-in-oil microemulsion method. The characterization results indicated that the thus-prepared RuSiNPs presented a uniform size of 45 nm and retained the original electrochemical properties of Ru(bpy)3(2+). AIMS: To assess the anatomic and functional results of 360° retinotomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD) with severe proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective, non-comparative, interventional, case study of 20 consecutive patients. We report a case of simultaneous late migration of two ePTFE-FEP covered biliary endoprostheses (Viabil, W.L. Gore, Flagstaff, AZ, USA) that were percutaneously implanted for the treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of circumferential scleral buckling on the prognosis for patients undergoing pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy for severe closed globe injury.
METHODS: A total of 33 cases in which pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy were performed after severe closed globe injury between January 1990 and January 2003 were studied retrospectively. All patients had zone III contusion type injury according to The Ocular Trauma Classification Group criteria. Of the 33 patients, 15 (group 1) also underwent peripheral scleral buckling; 18 did not (group 2).

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA), clofibrate, di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), and Wy-14,643 represent a class of compounds known as peroxisome proliferators (PPs). Such compounds induce biogenesis of liver peroxisomes and cause a varying degree of hepatotoxicity and carcinogenesis in rodents. Fifty cases of retinal detachment with a giant retinal tear were managed using perfluoroperhydrophenanthrene (Vitreon) as an intraoperative and postoperative tool. The giant tear was less than 180 degrees in 76% of the eyes, greater than 180 degrees in 22%, and greater than 270 degrees in 2%. Proliferative vitreoretinopathy was present in 40%. This investigation of the liquid perfluorocarbon, perfluorophenanthrene (Vitreon), establishes its safety and efficacy as a short-term vitreoretinal tamponade. We utilised Vitreon as an intraoperative tool and postoperative vitreoretinal tamponade in 16 patients. Perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) causes a dioxin-like toxic syndrome and alters the hepatic oleate/stearate ratio in rats. The acute toxic effects of a single ip dose (50 mg/kg) of PFDA on hepatic stearoyl-CoA desaturase and mixed function oxidases were studied in male Fischer-344 rats, 14 days after dosing.
