A total of 226 surgical operations were made with a Coblator II plasma surgery system including tonsillectomy, uvulopalatoplasty, reduction of inferior turbinates, and removal of soft palate neoplasm. This method permitted to avoid intraoperative bleeding and reduce to 2% the frequency of hemorrhage in the postoperative period. Moreover, pain syndrome was virtually absent and reactive processes in soft tissues were rare. Taken together, these effects accounted for the lower rate of postoperative complications, faster patients' recovery, and shorter hospitalization time.

BACKGROUND: Two-thirds of retinoblastoma cases are unilateral, with most presenting with an advanced stage of disease. Primary enucleation is usually the preferred treatment. Conservative therapy may save less involved eyes.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the presentation, age at diagnosis, classification, genetic status, treatment, and long-term outcome of 130 patients with unilateral retinoblastoma (1988-2008).

PURPOSE: To report a case of neovascular glaucoma due to central retinal artery occlusion treated with a single intravitreal injection of bevacizumab.
METHODS: A 68-year-old patient with a 10-week history of central retinal artery occlusion presented with neovascularization of the iris and the angle and intraocular pressure of 30 mm Hg. The patient received a single injection of 1.25 mg bevacizumab in 0.1 mL intravitreally.

PURPOSE: To report frequency, clinical characteristics, treatment, and the complications of branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) with serous macular detachment.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively studied 22 eyes of 22 patients in 111 eyes with acute BRVO, whose eyes had serous macular detachment that was detected by optical coherence tomography (OCT). Fluorescein angiography was conducted in 19 of the 22 eyes. Fourteen of the 22 eyes underwent scatter laser photocoagulation of the BRVO area. AIMS: To analyse the results of intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction in refractory glaucoma following diode laser cyclophotocoagulation with a repeatable standard protocol.

OBJECTIVE: The curative potential of various bronchoscopic treatments such as Nd:YAG laser, photodynamic therapy, and brachytherapy for the treatment of intraluminal tumor has been reported previously. Bronchoscopic treatment can be used to treat small intraluminal tumor with curative intent, such as in patients with roentgenologically occult squamous cell cancer. BACKGROUND: Dysphagia secondary to carcinoma of the oesophagus and gastric cardia is the principal symptom requiring palliation in those patients who present with late-stage disease or who are unfit for surgery. The primary aim of the present study was to determine the safety and efficacy of laser photocoagulation in the palliation of malignant dysphagia.
