The use of immediate implant placement for the replacement of a periodontally involved malaligned lateral incisor: a clinical report.

Localized severe chronic periodontitis is often seen in middle-aged patients, particularly when plaque control for malaligned teeth is not satisfactory. While orthodontic treatment can realign such teeth with reduced periodontal support, esthetics may be compromised by gingival recession due to preexisting bone loss and resolution of inflammation after periodontal treatment. This clinical report describes how a malaligned maxillary lateral incisor with severe periodontitis was replaced by an immediately placed implant and implant-supported crown with a good esthetic outcome.

Urinary catecholamine levels and incidence of dentofacial injuries in children: a 2-year prospective study.

Urinary catecholamines have been used to measure emotionally stressful states which may have an impact on dentofacial injuries. This prospective study investigated the hypothesis that urinary catecholamines such as epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine do not affect significantly the incidence of dentofacial injuries in children. As a test of this hypothesis 204 children, males and females, aged 8 to 10 years, were included in the study. After a first examination, each subject was re-examined, at one-year intervals, over a period of two years. Dentofacial injuries were recorded by a clinica

Non-surgical endodontic management of immature permanent mandibular first molar: a 3 year follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Deep carious lesions in immature permanent molars with pulp necrosis pose a serious challenge to contemporary paedodontic practice. A further complex clinical scenario is an immature permanent molar with varying root formation in both roots. This case report demonstrates the successful management of an immature permanent mandibular first molar. CASE REPORT: An 8-year-old boy was referred for endodontic management of 36 by a general practitioner. After clinical and radiographic evaluation, a diagnosis of recurrent chronic periapical abscess with abrupt root closure in the mesial ro

Treatment of cariously involved fused maxillary primary lateral and central incisors.

A 3-and-a-half-year-old male child presented with fused cariously involved right maxillary primary central and lateral incisors as well as a previously traumatized non-vital left primary central incisor with a draining fistula. The child also had other restorative needs and the decision taken was to address all needs under a G.A. With respect to the fused incisors, these were split and root canals treatment was performed for all three incisors which were then restored with stainless steel crowns with esthetic facings.

Bilateral talon cusp: case report.

Talon cusp is an uncommon condition often present in the maxillary incisors and mandibular premolars. Morphologically, this anomaly has a well-delineated cusp that extends at least half the distance from the cementoenamel junction or cingulum area to the incisal edge. The alteration can cause clinical problems such as caries or occlusal interference. Management of the talon cusp varies according to the circumstances of the individual case and should be as conservative as possible. Presented is a case of bilateral bifid talon cusp in maxillary central incisors that was successfully managed with

3D-Printed lithium disilicate-resin composites with bioinspired toughening radial-concentric architecture for dental restorations.

OBJECTIVES: Intrinsic brittleness is the main problem that leads to the failure of lithium disilicate (Li₂Si₂O₅) all-ceramic crown restoration. To overcome this, this study aims to: (1) Develop bioinspired radial-concentric Li₂Si₂O₅-resin composites that emulate the hierarchical architectures of horsetail grass and glass sponges to achieve biomechanical compatibility and improved damage tolerance. (2) Investigate the influence of key structural parameters-including shape factors (shafts and rings), ceramic volume fraction, and structural gradients-on mechanical performance. METHODS: Bioinspir

A single-subject finite element study on the influence of root dislocation direction on inferior alveolar nerve stress during mesially impacted mandibular third molar extraction.

BACKGROUND: Impacted mandibular third molars (M3Ms) often require extraction, with inferior alveolar nerve injury (IANI) as a serious complication. Preoperative risk stratification lacks biomechanical insight into nerve compression during tooth dislocation. METHODS: Twelve mandibular models were constructed based on CBCT data, varying M3M root morphology (single/double), mandibular canal (MC)-M3M distance (d-close: 1-3 mm; d-intimate: <1 mm), and MC position (caudal/buccal/lingual). Stress distribution, maximum Von Mises stress (MVMS) at the MC interface, principal strain, and MC displacement

Human activities have increased pollution and toxic element concentrations in soils across the Earth's surface. These activities could have … human health. In ungulates, soil ingestion rates align with species-level hypsodonty (height of the tooth crown). We propose that hypsodonty can be used as a proxy for identifying species-specific vulnerability to toxic-element exposure at broad scales. The non-invasive framework developed here, may be applied to monitoring wild herbivore exposure to toxic el …

Oral Health-Related Quality of Life among Implant-Supported Full-Mouth Rehabilitation Patients Treated in a University Dental Hospital - A Retrospective Study.

Full-mouth rehabilitation is the restoration of the form and function of the masticatory apparatus. Complete dentistry has five comprehensive goals in full-mouth rehabilitation: anatomic harmony, optimal oral health, best aesthetics, occlusal stability, and functional harmony. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) has become an important issue in the clinical practice of dentistry. Loss of complete natural teeth and resorption of alveolar bone are considered oral health impairment because they hinder the mastication, phonetics, and aesthetics of the stomatognathic system. A questionnair
