Identification of recovery pathway for glycolic acid from aqueous phase of bio-crude oil via computer-aided molecular design.

Bio-crude oil obtained from hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass, comprising aqueous and organic fractions contains several value-added chemicals. In this study, hydrothermal liquefaction of palm empty fruit bunch fibers was conducted at different temperatures (225 - 275 °C) and water to biomass ratios (10:1 to 20:1) to find their effect on the concentration of organic acids in aqueous phase. The models developed fit the experimental responses well. Recycling of the aqueous phase was found to increase the concentration of organic acids significantly. One of the main component of aqueous phase

A cellular Digital Twin framework for predictive and mechanistic modeling of drug responses in precision medicine.

Biomedical Digital Twins (DTs) are emerging as a significant concept in precision health and drug discovery, enabling dynamic, high-resolution representations of patients through the real-time integration of multimodal datasets. While most studies focus on organ or patient-level models, accurate prediction of drug response depends on molecular and cellular processes. At the cellular level, drugs interact with their targets, modulate signaling pathways, and ultimately drive cellular responses. Therefore, extending the DT framework to the cellular level is an important step toward developing mor

Research on the syntax of EEG microstates: A comprehensive analysis of epilepsy and psychosis of epilepsy.

Growing evidence suggests that abnormalities within the microstate sequence are associated with a wide range of mental illnesses. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of higher-order microstate sequence syntax on brain cognitive processes. We first refined the microstate sequences obtained from the EEG recordings of individuals with epilepsy (EP) and those with psychosis of epilepsy (POE) into subdivisions in terms of microstate words. Subsequently, the microstate word characteristics and clustering degree features of different microstate word sizes were computed and compared. Finall

Traditional Chinese medicine-induced cardiac adverse reactions: a critical review of current evidence, knowledge gaps, and pharmacovigilance strategies.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) holds considerable promise for managing cardiovascular conditions, but its cardiac safety continues to raise legitimate clinical concerns. In this critical review, we synthesize what is currently known about TCM related cardiac adverse reactions, including epidemiological patterns, offending botanical drug metabolites, toxicological pathways, and pharmacovigilance practices. What emerges from our systematic evaluation is a body of evidence that is surprisingly thin in key areas, with knowledge gaps that seriously undermine both risk assessment and clinical de

Identification and clustering analysis of drug-responsive temporally varying genes through high-frequency longitudinal RNA sequencing.

High-frequency longitudinal RNA sequencing has emerged as a powerful approach for capturing dynamic transcriptional responses to therapeutic interventions, yet traditional differential expression analysis fails to identify genes with temporal variability that lack static expression differences. We used our previously developed computational framework for identifying Temporally Varying Genes (TVGs) from daily blood samples collected over 10-21 days in Sprague-Dawley rats treated with hepatotoxic compounds including tetracycline, isoniazid, carbon tetrachloride, and valproate. Our methodology em

Placebo and nocebo effects on pain through the lens of the predictive brain: Neurobiological mechanisms and translational implications.

Placebo and nocebo effects on pain provide a model for investigating how cognitive and contextual factors modulate the physiological processes underlying nociception and its regulation. However, existing accounts remain fragmented and lack a unifying mechanistic framework linking brain, behaviour and autonomic responses. Here, we synthesize evidence from neuroimaging, electrophysiology, pharmacological and experimental paradigms within a predictive processing framework, conceptualizing pain as an inferential process arising from the integration of top-down predictions and bottom-up nociceptive

ReBo-SNN: Boosted spiking neural network with retina mechanism for efficient haze removal.

The haze effect induces light attenuation and color shifting in distant objects, thereby diminishing the contrast and saturation of images. In pursuit of restoring image clarity, a plethora of dehazing methods have been successively introduced. Nevertheless, the development of effective and practical methodologies remains a formidable challenge due to the requirement for powerful feature extraction capability alongside consideration of computational efficiency and model scalability. To address these issues, we put forward a boosted spiking neural network with retina mechanism, termed ReBo-SNN,
