The Role of Saliva in Swallowing: A Systematic Review.

Saliva plays a critical role in swallowing by lubricating tissues and helping form and transport the food bolus. While low saliva production (hyposalivation) is linked to difficulty swallowing, emerging evidence shows that changes in saliva's physical and chemical properties may also affect swallowing. However, the mechanisms underlying these relationships remain poorly understood. The aim of this systematic review was to explore relationships between saliva and swallowing by reviewing studies that provided objective measurements of both saliva production and swallowing biomechanics. A compreh

Chronic co-exposure to BPA and alcohol synergizes hepatotoxicity via dysregulation of glycerolipid metabolism and ceramide/HtrA2-driven apoptosis in HepG2 cells.

Bisphenol A (BPA) and alcohol (ALC) are recognized hepatotoxicants to which humans are chronically exposed through environmental sources, dietary habits, and preferences for alcoholic beverages. However, there is currently a lack of conclusive evidence concerning the synergistic hepatotoxic effects associated with co-exposure. This study provides mechanistic insights into BPA and ALC co-exposure-induced subcellular changes mimicking hepatotoxicity using acute and chronic 2D models and 3D HepG2/LX-2 spheroids. Results demonstrated that co-exposure amplified oxidative stress, DNA damage, and apo

In search of novel PD1 inhibitor from natural products by high-throughput virtual screening and molecular dynamics simulation.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) represents a significant oncological challenge. While immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting PD-1/PD-L1 have revolutionized the treatment of SCC, current monoclonal antibody approaches face limitations, including poor tissue penetration, high costs, and immune-related adverse events in patients. Most existing small-molecule efforts target PD-L1, leaving PD-1/PD-L2 interactions intact and enabling immune escape. This study represents the first systematic identification of natural product-derived direct PD-1 inhibitors, offering broader pathway blockade compared to

Therapeutic Potential of Experimental Stereotactic Hippocampal Cell Transplant in the Management of Alzheimer's Disease.

Due to a continuous increase in life expectancy and the progress made in specialized healthcare, the incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has dramatically increased to the point that it has become one of the main challenges of contemporary medicine. Despite a huge scientific and clinical effort, current treatments manage just a temporary alleviation of symptomatology but offer no cure. Modern trials involving cell transplantation in experimental animals require the involvement of neurosurgeons in the treatment protocol. CSF shunting, intraventricular infusions, or DBS for symptoms relief have

Exploration of small molecules as inhibitors of potential BACE1 protein to treat amyloid cerebrovascular disease by employing molecular modeling and simulation approaches.

Amyloid cerebrovascular disease, primarily driven by the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides, is intricately linked to neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease. BACE1 (beta-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1) plays a critical role in the production of Aβ, making it a key therapeutic target. In the current work, a CNS library of ChemDiv database containing 44085 compounds was screened against the BACE1 protein. Initially, a structure-based pharmacophore hypothesis was constructed, followed by virtual screening, with the screened hits docked to the BACE1 protein
