Choroid Segmentation of Retinal OCT Images Based on CNN Classifier and l 2-l q Fitter.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive cross-sectional imaging technology used to examine the retinal structure and pathology of the eye. Evaluating the thickness of the choroid using OCT images is of great interests for clinicians and researchers to monitor the choroidal thickness in many ocular diseases for diagnosis and management. However, manual segmentation and thickness profiling of choroid are time-consuming which lead to low efficiency in analyzing a large quantity of OCT images for swift treatment of patients. In this paper, an automatic segmentation approach based on co

The misalignment induced aberrations of TMA telescopes.

The next major space-borne observatory, the James Webb Space Telescope, will be a 6.6M field-biased, obscured, three-mirror anastigmat (TMA). Over the used field of view, the performance of TMA telescopes is dominated by 3(rd) order misalignment aberrations. Here it is shown that two dominant 3(rd) order misalignment aberrations arise for any TMA telescope. One aberration, field constant 3(rd) order coma is a well known misalignment aberration commonly seen in two-mirror Ritchey Chretien telescopes. The second aberration, field-asymmetric, field-linear, 3(rd) order astigmatism is a new and uni

A Comparative Study of Unsupervised and Deep Learning Methods for Automatic Segmentation of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm on CT Images: Preliminary Results.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Considering that most AAAs remain asymptomatic until they are close to rupture, an efficient workflow for the accurate detection and delineation is crucial for the clinical outcome. In this study, we conduct a comparative analysis of two different AAA segmentation algorithms using X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) images from 18 patients diagnosed with AAA, which have not been used in similar studies before. The methodologies employed include an in-house segmentation algorithm based on conventional image analysis tec

Multi-scale deformable attention fusion network with global context modeling for chest X-ray lesion segmentation.

Chest X-ray segmentation is a critical technique for the screening and diagnosis of common thoracic diseases such as pneumonia and COVID-19, providing essential support for clinical diagnosis and quantitative analysis. However, the inherent challenges of chest X-ray images, including blurry lesion boundaries and irregular contours, pose significant difficulties for accurate segmentation. To address this problem, we propose a Multi-Scale Deformable Attention Fusion Network (MSDAFNet) for lesion segmentation in chest X-rays. MSDAFNet adaptively perceives lesion regions of varying shapes and size

CT colonography for longitudinal in-vivo assessment of colonic lengthening in middle-age and older adults.

BACKGROUND: Although a general trend for longer colons among older adults has been observed, longitudinal demonstration of intra-patient elongation is lacking. We assessed colonic length at serial CT colonography (CTC), which allows for precise length measurement over time. METHODS: Longitudinal CTC evaluation (mean time interval, 12.8 years; range, 11.6-16.6 years) in 100 asymptomatic adults (mean age, 54.2 years at index study; 50 men, 50 women) were analyzed using a dedicated software system (V3D Colon, Viatronix). Segmental and total colonic lengths were obtained at interactive 2D and 3D

A deep learning model for gastric diffuse-type adenocarcinoma classification in whole slide images.

Gastric diffuse-type adenocarcinoma represents a disproportionately high percentage of cases of gastric cancers occurring in the young, and its relative incidence seems to be on the rise. Usually it affects the body of the stomach, and it presents shorter duration and worse prognosis compared with the differentiated (intestinal) type adenocarcinoma. The main difficulty encountered in the differential diagnosis of gastric adenocarcinomas occurs with the diffuse-type. As the cancer cells of diffuse-type adenocarcinoma are often single and inconspicuous in a background desmoplaia and inflammation

Using Deep Learning in Ultrasound Imaging of Bicipital Peritendinous Effusion to Grade Inflammation Severity.

Inflammation of the long head of the biceps tendon is a common cause of shoulder pain. Bicipital peritendinous effusion (BPE) is the most common biceps tendon abnormality and is related to various shoulder injuries. Physicians usually use ultrasound imaging to grade the inflammation severity of the long head of the biceps tendon. However, obtaining a clear and accurate ultrasound image is difficult for inexperienced attending physicians. To reduce physicians' workload and avoid errors, an automated BPE recognition system was developed in this article for classifying inflammation into the follo
