Altered Resting-State Functional Networks in Nondialysis Patients with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease: A Graph-Theoretical Analysis.

This study aimed to investigate the topological characteristics of the resting-state functional network and the underlying pathological mech … tamen (r = 0.53, p < 0.001 and r = 0.47, p < 0.001), left thalamus (r = 0.37, p < 0.001), and right caudate nucleus (r = 0.28, p = 0.01) was positively correlated with MoCA scores. In conclusion, all CKD5 ND patients exhibited changes in functional network topological properties and were closely associated with mild cognitive impairment. More interestingly, the t …

Differential roles of NMDAR subunits 2A and 2B in mediating peripheral and central sensitization contributing to orofacial neuropathic pain.

Differential actions of NR2A and NR2B in mediating central sensitization were also observed. Silencing of NR2B was effective in reducing c-fos, GFAP, and Iba-1 but did not affect Kir4.1. In contrast, NR2A CKO only altered Iba-1 and Kir4.1 a …

Recovery of superior frontal gyrus cortical thickness and resting-state functional connectivity in abstinent heroin users after 8 months of follow-up.

Compared with healthy controls, heroin users (HUs) show evidence of structural and functional brain alterations. However, little is known about the possibility of brain recovery after protracted heroin abstinence. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether brain recovery is possible after protracted abstinence in HUs. A total of 108 subjects with heroin addiction completed structural and functional scans, and 61 of those subjects completed 8-month follow-up scans. Resting-state data and 3D-T1 MR images were collected for all participants, first at baseline and again after 8 months. C

The Influence of Stomach Back-Shu and Front-Mu Points on Insular Functional Connectivity in Functional Dyspepsia Rat Models.

Functional Dyspepsia (FD) is a common functional gastrointestinal disease, which can reduce the quality of life in patients. Prior research has indicated that insula is closely related to FD and that acupuncture can regulate the functional connectivity (FC) of FD. Therefore, we hypothesized that acupuncture on FD was effected through the insular pathway. To test our hypothesis, we performed electroacupuncture (EA) on FD rat models and then examined the FC between insula and other brain regions through resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Seven-day-old male infant Spra

Protective effects of delayed intraventricular TLR7 agonist administration on cerebral white and gray matter following asphyxia in the preterm fetal sheep.

Preterm brain injury is highly associated with inflammation, which is likely related in part to sterile responses to hypoxia-ischemia. We have recently shown that neuroprotection with inflammatory pre-conditioning in the immature brain is associated with induction of toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7). We therefore tested the hypothesis that central administration of a synthetic TLR7 agonist, gardiquimod (GDQ), after severe hypoxia-ischemia in preterm-equivalent fetal sheep would improve white and gray matter recovery. Fetal sheep at 0.7 of gestation received sham asphyxia or asphyxia induced by umbi

Neurobiology of social reward valuation in adults with a history of anorexia nervosa.

OBJECTIVE: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a disorder characterized by atypical patterns of reward valuation (e.g. positive valuation of hunger). Atypical reward processing may extend into social domains. If so, such findings would be of prognostic significance as impaired social functioning predicts worse outcome. We explore neural circuits implicated in social reward processing in individuals with a history of AN who are weight-restored relative to controls and examine the effects of illness course on the experience of social value. METHOD: 20 weight-restored individuals with a history of AN (AN-W

Effects of IV iron isomaltoside-1000 treatment on regional brain iron status in an iron-deficient animal.

BACKGROUND: Iron deficiency has been documented to affect human cognitive function and conditions with brain iron compromise such as the restless legs syndrome (RLS). Intravenous (IV) iron treatment is used to reduce iron deficiency but its effects on brain iron are not known. It is not known if IV iron is effective in correcting regional brain iron deficiencies nor if it poses a risk of producing iron overload in some brain regions. Preclinical study of IV iron in the iron-deficient (ID) murine model is needed to evaluate and develop IV iron treatments for brain iron deficiency. METHODS: Res
