The sebum-excretion rate (S.E.R.) has been found to be increased in patients with benign as well as malignant breast disease. The S.E.R. was not increased in patients undergoing surgery for other diseases. It is considered that the sebotrophic hormone may also be mammotrophic. Drugs such as reserpine and the phenothiazines which increase sebum production may perhaps provoke benign as well as malignant breast disease.

The cellular immune response of a 17-year-old decerebrate male with acquired zinc deficiency was studied. He had been fed a commercial formula which contained 7.6 mg zinc per kilogram. His caloric intake had been inadequate as judged by his cachexia. Simple treatment usually suffices for the control of acute external otitis, This consists of meticulous cleaning of the ear canal and application of antibiotic-corticosteroid drops. Good local care of the ear can prevent both the chronic and the acute forms of external otitis. Malignant external otitis is an uncommon but lethal type that most often accompanies diabetes. If this condition is diagnosed, hospitalization and aggressive treatment are then a necessity.
