PURPOSE: Patients with diabetes are often prescribed foot orthoses to help prevent foot ulcer formation. Orthotics are used to redistribute normal and shear stress. Shear stresses are not easily measurable and considered to be responsible for skin breakdown. Local elevation of skin temperature has been implicated as an early sign of impending ulceration especially in regions of high shear stress. The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of commonly prescribed insole materials on local changes in plantar foot temperature during normal gait.

Length discrepancy secondary to limb hypoplasia has been described as an associated finding in patients with unilateral clubfoot. In this manuscript we bring attention to limb length discrepancy as a result of surgical treatment in unilateral clubfoot. Osteolysis induced by particulate debris from total joint implants is typically confined to bone and benign in radiographic appearance even when extensive. However, they can extend well beyond bone in which case they can simulate malignancies owing either to mass effects and pressure on adjacent tissues or owing to the radiographic appearance. We report two cases which presented as possible malignancy, and review the literature on extensive osteolysis. Recognition of this possibility may aid in interpretation of the clinical presentation and imaging studies.

A 14 year-old boy developed a tibial aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) following a closed tibia fracture. The tumor formed in a site remote from the fracture and was not radiographically apparent until one year following the traumatic event. Most ABC's present due to fracture or pain, but this lesion was discovered during routine follow up films of the tibial shaft fracture. This case lends support to the debated theory that ABC's are reactive bone lesions and provides a rare radiographic glimpse at the lesion's early rate of development.

The purpose of this study was to provide clinical and radiographic evaluation after a minimum of two years in patients who had an anterior cervical corpectomy and a fibular allograft strut. Nineteen patients returned for a follow-up visit which included independent radiographic evaluation as well as completing a Visual Analogue Scale and Oswestry and Short-Form 36 questionnaires. Between November 1970 and September 1984 the senior author performed fifty-three consecutive total hip arthroplasties with cement in forty-one patients with the diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Five hips in three patients with failed renal transplants requiring chronic hemodialysis were excluded. Two cases of osteochondrosis of the superior pole of the patella are reported with histologic findings. Both patients were young girls; one had mild cerebral palsy. Sixteen cases of this disorder have been documented but without histologic study. The histologic features of these two cases showed osteonecrosis with reparative changes. These findings support that this entity is similar to other osteochondroses of the quadriceps mechanism: Osgood-Schlatter disease and Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease.

In this report, two patients sustained a recurrent supracondylar humerus fracture following malunion of a previous supracondylar humerus fracture. The patients were treated for their first fracture at 5 and 6 years of age, respectively. One underwent open reduction with percutaneous pinning, and the other was treated with closed reduction with casting. Both patients healed in a moderate degree of extension after the first fracture. We studied six pediatric amputees with long below-knee residual limbs, in order to delineate their functional and prosthetic situations, specifically in relation to problems with fitting for dynamic-response prosthetic feet.
