Incidence and influencing factors of urinary incontinence in stroke patients: A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of stroke in China ranks first in the world and is the leading cause of death and disability in adults. Urinary incontinence is an independent risk factor leading to poor prognosis of stroke. However, studies on the incidence of urinary incontinence in stroke patients and its influencing factors are different, fluctuate greatly, and there is no unified basis. OBJECTIVE: To quantitatively analyze the incidence of urinary incontinence in stroke patients and its related influencing factors, and further make public health strategic decisions to reduce the occurrence of a

Correlation between COVID-19 and hepatitis B: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: There is growing evidence that patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) frequently present with liver impairment. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a major public health threat in current society. Both severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and HBV can cause liver damage, and current findings on whether HBV infection increases disease severity in COVID-19 patients are inconsistent, and whether SARS-CoV-2 infection accelerates hepatitis B progression or leads to a worse prognosis in hepatitis B patients has not been adequately elucidated. AIM: To explor

The American Board of Radiology Perspective on Maintenance of Certification: Part IV: Practice quality improvement in radiologic physics.

Recent initiatives of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in the area of maintenance of certification (MOC) have been reflective of the response of the medical community to address public concerns regarding quality of care, medical error reduction, and patient safety. In March 2000, the 24 member boards of the ABMS representing all medical subspecialties in the USA agreed to initiate specialty-specific maintenance of certification (MOC) programs. The American Board of Radiology (ABR) MOC program for diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, and radiologic physics has been develope

Vital yet Fragile: Informal Networks of Support Among Young People Navigating Long Covid.

INTRODUCTION: Young people living with Long Covid face challenges accessing health care and social support. Previous qualitative research in the UK has described the 'invalidation' of Long Covid illness experience. It has been said that there is a 'double invisibility' produced by narratives that minimise the effects of Covid-19 among young people, which combine with a generalised lack of awareness of Long Covid itself. In this analysis, we look beyond the well-documented networks of online self-help and advocacy to trace how young people navigate, connect and maintain multi-sited alternative

COVID-19 Impact on Health Behaviors and Survey Engagement in Older African Americans: Longitudinal Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted older adults' daily lives, particularly concerning social interaction, physical activity, and sleep quality. Older African Americans were disproportionately affected yet remain underrepresented in research documenting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated changes in self-reported health, survey engagement, physical activity, and sleep duration among older African American adults in the Minority Aging Research Study (MARS) before and after Illinois' March 21, 2020, COVID-19 stay-at-home order, using online surveys an

Second and third delays in emergency obstetric care: predictors in Northwest Cameroon.

BACKGROUND: Maternal mortality in Cameroon's conflict-affected Northwest Region remains high, with delays in accessing and receiving emergency obstetric care (EmOC) being a major contributor. Using the Three Delays Model, this study investigated socioeconomic and health system predictors of the second delay (reaching a health facility after deciding to seek care) and third delay (receiving adequate care upon arrival) among postnatal women in referral hospitals. METHODS: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2024 to April 2025 (11 months) among 472 postnatal women acro

Understanding cholera dynamics in African countries with persistent outbreaks: a mathematical modeling approach.

BACKGROUND: Cholera, caused by Vibrio cholerae, is a global health challenge, spreading through water in areas lacking clean water and sanitation. Since 2021, the reemergence of cholera cases has increased significantly in endemic regions in Africa. In particular, the continent experienced severe outbreaks between 2022 and 2024 due to droughts and cyclones, which have placed additional strain on healthcare systems. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the dynamics of cholera outbreaks in eight African countries using mathematical modeling and machine learning and to provide information f

Content of antenatal care and perception about services provided by primary hospitals in Nepal: a convergent mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: Nepal has made significant strides in maternal and neonatal mortality over the last three decades. However, poor quality of care can threaten the gains, as maternal and newborn services are particularly sensitive to quality of care. Our study aimed to understand current gaps in the process and the outcome dimensions of the quality of antenatal care (ANC), particularly at the sub-national level. We assessed these dimensions of the quality of ANC in 17 primary, public hospitals across Nepal. We also assessed the variation in the ANC process across the patients' socio-economic gradien

Effectiveness of road safety interventions: An evidence and gap map.

BACKGROUND: Road Traffic injuries (RTI) are among the top ten leading causes of death in the world resulting in 1.35 million deaths every year, about 93% of which occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite several global resolutions to reduce traffic injuries, they have continued to grow in many countries. Many high-income countries have successfully reduced RTI by using a public health approach and implementing evidence-based interventions. As many LMICs develop their highway infrastructure, adopting a similar scientific approach towards road safety is crucial. The evidence al

Neuro-symbolic LLM Integration in Clinical Medicine: A Systematic Review and Taxonomy.

BACKGROUND: LLMs are promising for clinical workflows but hallucinations limit deployment. Neuro-symbolic systems pair LLMs with explicit rules, ontologies, or knowledge graphs to constrain outputs, yet integration patterns are described inconsistently and their deployment trade-offs remain unclear. METHODS: We conducted a PRISMA 2020 systematic review (PROSPERO CRD420261296004) of peer-reviewed studies (PubMed/MEDLINE, CENTRAL, Web of Science, Scopus; English; January 1, 2022 to January 30, 2026) and assessed risk of bias using PROBAST adapted to neuro-symbolic evaluations. Feasibility, validation and application of digital tools for remote monitoring in neuromuscular diseases: the DT4RD protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Rare diseases (RDs) affect millions of people worldwide and present major challenges for research due to small patient populations, limited longitudinal data and the difficulty of capturing real-world disease manifestations. Digital technologies provide new opportunities to collect multimodal data directly from patients and their environments. In particular, video recordings, wearable-based physical activity monitoring and digital questionnaires can generate detailed, longitudinal information on symptoms, functional abilities and daily-life impact. The digital tools for rare diso

Linking Healthcare Quality and Knowledge Management in Traditional and Ethnomedicine-Oriented Hospitals: A Scoping Review and Implementation Framework.

Traditional and ethnomedicine-oriented hospitals operate at the intersection of culturally embedded clinical knowledge, contemporary biomedical evidence, regulatory requirements, and patient expectations. Their quality challenges therefore extend beyond conventional compliance and include the preservation, validation, translation, and safe application of knowledge. This scoping review mapped how healthcare quality management and knowledge management have been conceptualized and operationalized in hospital and health service settings relevant to traditional, complementary, integrative, Indigeno

The effects of exercise on the quality of life of patients with breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis based on the QLQ-C30 quality of life scale.

BACKGROUND: Studies have reported that exercise can effectively improve the quality of life of breast cancer (BC) patients. However, considering the differences in exercise form and intensity, it is difficult to quantify and unify the improved outcomes, and there are contradictions in the conclusions. This meta-analysis aimed to quantitatively evaluate the effects of exercise on the quality of life (QoL) of patients with BC based on the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QoL Questionnaire-C30 (QLQ-C30) scale, to provide optimization suggestions for the treatment plan of
