Primary pituitary lymphomas (PPLs) are rare tumors of the central nervous system, and most are of B-cell origin. Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphomas are uncommon neoplasms that are highly aggressive and show a strong association with Epstein-Barr virus. They most commonly affect the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses; manifestation as a primary pituitary tumor has never been described. Out of 323 consecutive growth hormone deficient patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we describe the clinical and neuroradiological characteristics of four patients in whom MRI revealed unusual pictures of the sellar area. They were selected as unique in their morphological picture and representative of rare conditions. The regional distribution of neuropeptide Y-like immunoreactivity (NPY-IR) in the human hypothalamus has been determined using a highly specific immunoradiometric assay. Hypothalami were removed during postmortem examination from 19 subjects. The pituitary stalk and 11 anatomically defined nuclei and areas were microdissected from one or both sides of each hypothalamus. NPY-IR was detectable in the acid extracts of tissue samples prepared from all the hypothalamic regions studied, with the highest concentrations being found in the infundibular nucleus (325 +/- 53 fmol/mg wet weight of tissue)

We experienced 8 cases of esophageal cysts on between January, 1965 and March, 1989. During the same period, 320 cases of mediastinal tumors were operated in our department, and esophageal cysts were 2.5% of these cases. They were 7 males and 1 female, and ranged in age from 5 to 51 (mean 29.9) years. The cysts were located in the right in 6 and in the left in 2, and in the upper third of the esophagus in 1, middle third in 3 and lower third in 2 cases. A correct preoperative diagnosis was made in only 1 case. The definite diagnoses were not obtained from thoracic CT scans and esophagography.
