Patellar Articular Overlap on MRI Is a Simple Alternative to Conventional Measurements of Patellar Height.

BACKGROUND: Patella alta describes an abnormally high-riding patella in relationship to the femur and has been shown to correlate with patellofemoral pain, instability, chondromalacia, and arthrosis. Conventional measurements of patella alta involve multiple measurements and are often not defined on cross-sectional imaging as related to radiographs. HYPOTHESIS: Patellar articular overlap on sagittal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will correlate well with conventional measurements of patella alta as measured by a standardized technique defined by our group. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study (diagn

Are general practitioners well informed about fibromyalgia?

AIM: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a common rheumatologic disorder characterized by easy fatigability, widespread musculoskeletal pain and sleep disorder. In spite of its high prevalence, general practitioners, as primary care providers, seem to have inadequate knowledge about FMS. This study aimed to assess Iranian general practitioners' knowledge about FMS and its treatment. METHOD: A detailed questionnaire (including items on signs and symptoms, diagnostic criteria and treatment) was completed by 190 general practitioners (54.7% male; mean age: 41 years). Data analysis was performed with

Acetabular anteversion is associated with gluteal tendinopathy at MRI.

OBJECTIVE: Gluteal tendinopathy and greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) remain incompletely understood despite their pervasiveness in clinical practice. To date, no study has analyzed the morphometric characteristics of the hip on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that may predispose to gluteal tendinopathy. This study aimed to evaluate whether acetabular anteversion (AA), femoral neck anteversion (FNA), and femoral neck-shaft angle (FNSA) are associated with MRI features of gluteal tendinopathy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 203 MRI examinations of the hip met our inclusion and excl

Distinctive clinical features in arthro-myalgic patients with and without aluminum hydroxyde-induced macrophagic myofasciitis: an exploratory study.

UNLABELLED: Macrophagic myofasciitis (MMF) is a specific histological lesion assessing the persistence of vaccine-derived aluminum oxyhydroxide in muscle tissue, at a site of previous immunization. Long-lasting MMF is usually detected in patients with arthromyalgias, chronic fatigue, and stereotyped cognitive dysfunction. MMF diagnosis requires muscle biopsy, an invasive procedure not suitable for the routine investigation of all patients with musculoskeletal pain. To help decision making in routine practice, we designed a retrospective analysis of 130 consecutive arthro-myalgic patients, prev

The emerging role of subchondral bone homeostasis in osteoarthritis.

The treatment of progressive articular cartilage degeneration and consequent joint deterioration, also known as osteoarthritis (OA), remains a major challenge in musculoskeletal medicine. The subchondral bone has become a key area of research, as early alterations in bone remodelling and structure may precede cartilage degeneration and contribute to disease initiation and progression. Therefore, this review aims to summarise our current understanding of the role of subchondral bone in the initiation and progression of OA. Scientific databases were analysed, focusing on studies published within

Exploring fascia in myofascial pain syndrome: an integrative model of mechanisms.

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a leading cause of chronic musculoskeletal pain, yet its mechanisms remain debated. Traditional models emphasized muscle contracture or central sensitization, but growing evidence highlights fascia as a biologically active, pain-relevant tissue. Pathological alterations such as densification, fibrosis, and inflammation may generate nociceptive input and sustain persistent symptoms. To explore this perspective, we conducted a conceptual narrative review of studies published between 2000 and 2025 in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Eligible publicatio
