The aim of our study was to estimate underfoot pressure distribution of a patient after bilateral hallux amputation and the unilateral calcaneal bone fracture on the left side at the end of orthopaedic end rehabilitation treatment. The pedobarographic examination during bipedal standing revealed localisation of maximal pressure at H region on the side of fracture and on MT1 and H foot regions on the other side. After the and of orthopaedic treatment underfoot pressure distribution changes persists in spite of pain regression.

Toward the general goal of preventing ankle injuries in snowboarding accidents, the objective of this project to develop a dynamic system model of a snowboarder and assess which model parameters, particularly those attributed to the boot, most strongly influenced ankle deflections during a forward fall. To satisfy this objective, a system model was created that included the rider, the boots, the snowboard, and the snow as components. Through dynamic simulations, peak ankle deflections were computed over realistic ranges of input parameter values for each of the model components. Defining sensi

The lack of muscle control in neurological disorders often leads to deformities of the foot. The equinus (a contracture of the triceps surae muscle), the abduction and clubfoot deformity are the most common ones. The present paper describes the deformities and stresses the functional relevance for the patient. Therapeutic principles of the conservative orthopaedic means are described with special emphasis on the need of an adequate height of the aide and the foot position. Casting and the application of Botulinun toxine are described having a major side effect of muscle weakening. A combinatio

Sensory peripheral neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes mellitus and the biggest risk factor for diabetic foot ulcers. There is currently no available treatment that can reverse sensory loss in the diabetic population. The application of mechanical noise has been shown to improve vibration perception threshold or plantar sensation (through stochastic resonance) in the short term, but the therapeutic use, and longer-term effects have not been explored. In this study, vibrating insoles were therapeutically used by 22 participants, for 30 min per day, on a daily basis, for a month by p

BACKGROUND: Persons with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) may face challenges such as balance issues due to reduced somatosensory feedback and an increased risk of developing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) due to increased plantar pressure. Pressure reducing footwear is thought to further impair balance. We introduced 3D-printed rocker midsoles and self-adjusting insoles that are able to reduce elevated plantar pressure values and aimed to prevent balance deterioration. However, their effect on the balance during walking (dynamic stability) is not analyzed yet.
RESEARCH QUESTION: Is dynamic

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of three off-loading techniques to heal diabetic foot wounds: total contact casts (TCCs), healing sandals (HSs) and a removable boot with a shear-reducing foot bed (SRB). This was a 12-week, single-blinded randomised clinical trial with three parallel treatment groups of adults with diabetes and a foot ulcer (n = 73). Ulcer healing was defined as full reepithelialisation with no drainage. Diabetic patients with grade UT1A or UT2A forefoot ulcers on the sole of the foot were enrolled. Patients with malignancy, immune-compromising diseases

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Exposure to n-hexane, a neurotoxic solvent, has been associated with sensorimotor polyneuropathy, both in occupationally exposed workers and in glue-sniffing addicts. The present study was carried out to ascertain whether exposure to sub-TLV levels of n-hexane was associated with electrophysiological abnormalities and to determine if these possible abnormalities have any correlations with parameters such as the biological exposure index (BEI) of this neurotoxic chemical, workers' TWA exposure to n-hexane and/or duration of employment.

Individuals with unilateral transfemoral amputation are at greater risk of falls than individuals without amputation, with slipping being a major contributing factor. The required coefficient of friction, defined as the minimum shoe-floor friction needed to prevent slipping, has been well studied in individuals without amputation but remains poorly understood in individuals with unilateral transfemoral amputation. Especially, its association with gait parameters in this population is unclear. This study investigated differences in resultant required coefficient of friction and its mediolateral

Limb trauma can result in decreased mobility, compensatory gait patterns, and pain. Carbon fiber custom dynamic orthoses (CDOs) include a cuff below the knee, posterior strut, and semi-rigid footplate. Custom dynamic orthoses alter foot loading within the footplate, but the effects of cuff design are not well understood. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cuff design on foot loading. Five individuals without, and 1 individual with, lower limb injury completed testing without a CDO and with a CDO with 3 different cuff designs. Loadsol insoles (Novel Electronics, St Paul, M

Continuous plantar-pressure monitoring is important for objective gait analysis and early detection of abnormal loading; however, many existing solutions remain laboratory-bound (force plates and instrumented walkways) or rely on costly in-shoe multilayer sensor arrays. Here, we developed and optimized a fully screen-printed pressure-sensing insole based on carbon-polymer nanocomposite layers, with an emphasis on manufacturability and process control to bridge the gap between proof-of-concept force-sensitive resistor (FSR)-based insoles and scalable printed-electronics manufacturing workflows.

Pelvic support osteotomy (PSO), when done in children, is subject to remodeling. This study aimed to assess the extent of remodeling at the osteotomy site and functional outcome post-PSO. A total of 28 patients were selected with a minimum follow-up of 2 years. PSO was combined with limb length equalization procedures including distal femoral lengthening, epiphysiodesis, or shoe raise, as indicated, because all patients had limb length discrepancy as part of their underlying pathology. The valgus osteotomy angle incorporated into the proximal femur was measured on the immediate postoperative s
