To determine the significance of the endoscopic classification of gastritis proposed by a working party at the World Congress of Gastroenterology in Sydney 1990, 167 patients undergoing upper alimentary endoscopy were prospectively assessed by comprehensive endoscopic and histological methods. The clinical features of 53 cases of intercalated hypoplasia and 113 cases of distal aplasia are reviewed and compared with each other and with 129 cases of syndactyly. Tri-, di- and mono-phalangeal symbrachydactyly, and adactyly with nubbin digits are consecutive anomalies. Transverse deficiency may result if the mesenchyme is damaged severely, and if damage is mild and formation has continued, intercalated transverse deficiency may occur. Webbing in symbrachydactyly may result from failure of the apical ectodermal ridge under the influence of damaged mesenchyme.

A beta-bulge is a region of irregularity in a beta-sheet involving two beta-strands. It usually involves two or more residues in the bulged strand opposite to a single residue on the adjacent strand. The classification of hemifacial microsomia (HFM) aids in diagnosis, treatment planning, prognostic predictions and data evaluation. Computed tomography (CT) of the thorax and upper abdomen was prospectively evaluated in 84 patients with potentially operable lung cancer. Invasion into the thoracic wall and the mediastinal structures was not accurately demonstrated by CT. For metastatic mediastinal lymph nodes, the sensitivity and specificity of CT were, respectively, 86% and 61% and the positive and negative predictive indices 49% and 91%. Basic principles of present-day classification of hereditary epidermolysis bullosa are outlined, and morphologic grounds for distinguishing common, borderline, and dystrophic e. bullosa are validated. Potentialities of prenatal diagnosis of grave forms of e. bullosa as one of the major means of prevention are discussed. Data of clinical follow-up of 25 patients with common, 5 with borderline, and 29 ones with dystrophic e. bullosa are presented, as are results of 8 cases of prenatal diagnosis. On 231 autoptical examined prostatic carcinomas it was checked retrospectively if a correlation between the metastasizing behaviour and the histological tumor type is present. 145 (63%) of the examined cases have been metastasized, of that 106 (73%) in multiple organs and 39 (27%) in one organ: 18 times in the skeleton (12.4%), 13 times in lymph nodes (8.9%), six times in the liver (4.1%) and twice in the lung (1.4%). Nasal defects are among the most complicated problems frequently facing the otolaryngologists--head and neck surgeon. The complex role of the nasal structure and its anatomy makes a practical guide for reconstruction particularly attractive. Tuberculous involvement of the posterior elements of the spine is uncommon. Review of the literature reveals little information and there is scant mention of this subject in standard textbooks of orthopaedics. A study of 27 cases of such lesions seen over 6 years is presented, drawn from two separate centres, 21 from Central India and 6 from South Eastern Iran. The clinical presentation, investigations and treatment are analysed. A new four point classification is described based upon the site of the lesion, the stage of the lesion, associated lesions and neurological deficit.
