Predicting the replicability of social and behavioural science claims in COVID-19 preprints.

Replications are important for assessing the reliability of published findings. However, they are costly, and it is infeasible to replicate everything. Accurate, fast, lower-cost alternatives such as eliciting predictions could accelerate assessment for rapid policy implementation in a crisis and help guide a more efficient allocation of scarce replication resources. We elicited judgements from participants on 100 claims from preprints about an emerging area of research (COVID-19 pandemic) using an interactive structured elicitation protocol, and we conducted 29 new high-powered replications.

Do health-promoting lifestyle approaches manage mental health among adolescent/young college students?

OBJECTIVES: College students are often still relatively young, making their mental health more likely to be overlooked. A healthy lifestyle is considered the key to preventing and controlling mental health problems nowadays. This study aimed to investigate whether health-promoting lifestyle approaches manage mental health among adolescent/young college students. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 187 adolescent/young college students at Babol Medical Science University, Babol, Iran. Characteristic demographics, health-promoting lifestyle profile (HPLP), and general health qu

Outcomes of clinical decision support systems in real-world perioperative care: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Although clinical decision support systems (CDSS) have been developed to enhance the quality and efficiency of surgeries, little is known regarding the practical effects in real-world perioperative care. OBJECTIVE: To systematically review and meta-analyze the current impact of CDSS on various aspects of perioperative care, providing evidence support for future research on CDSS development and clinical implementation. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the Cochrane Handbook and PRISMA statement guidelines, searching databases up to 2 February 2024, includi

Colposcopy in the Primary Health Care: A Scoping Review.

AIM: Low- and middle-income countries represent nearly 85% of all cervical cancer cases worldwide; thereby, it is extremely important to identify methods to improve the screening process. Therefore, this study aimed to summarize the primary characteristics of studies on accessibility, coverage, patient preferences, and factors associated with patient satisfaction or acceptance of colposcopy in primary healthcare. METHODS: A search strategy, based on MeSH, Emtree, and free terms, was run through 5 databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Ovid/Medline, and Web of Science). EndNote 20.1 © and Rayyan Q

Roles and practices of specialist lung cancer nurses: a scoping review protocol.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this scoping review is to map the available literature on the role of specialist lung cancer nurses. INTRODUCTION: The international literature acknowledges the importance of specialist cancer nurses who provide supportive care to patients. Historically, however, there has been a lack of consistent evidence to inform development and implementation of the role. INCLUSION CRITERIA: This review will consider quantitative and qualitative studies of any design or methodology that report on role characteristics or behaviors, practices, or activities, or other aspects of

Human factors in anaesthesia: a narrative review.

Healthcare relies on high levels of human performance, as described by the 'human as the hero' concept. However, human performance varies and is recognised to fall in high-pressure situations, meaning that it is not a reliable method of ensuring safety. Other safety-critical industries embed human factors principles into all aspects of their organisations to improve safety and reduce reliance on exceptional human performance; there is potential to do the same in anaesthesia. Human factors is a broad-based scientific discipline which aims to make it as easy as possible for workers to do things

Sex and gender in neurodevelopmental conditions.

Health-related conditions often differ qualitatively or quantitatively between individuals of different birth-assigned sexes and gender identities, and/or with different gendered experiences, requiring tailored care. Studying the moderating and mediating effects of sex-related and gender-related factors on impairment, disability, wellbeing and health is of paramount importance especially for neurodivergent individuals, who are diagnosed with neurodevelopmental conditions with uneven sex/gender distributions. Researchers have become aware of the myriad influences that sex-related and gender-rel

BACKGROUND: The implementation of automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) has considerably increased in many countries. We conducted a bibliometric analysis to evaluate the accumulating studies on APD in the last two decades quantitatively and qualitatively. METHODS: Publications regarding APD research between 2000 and 2020 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database by using the index term "automated peritoneal dialysis." CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and an online platform were employed to analyze the number of publications and the collaboration relationships between countries, inst

Co-design of a therapeutic virtual reality tool to increase awareness and self-management of cognitive fatigue after traumatic brain injury.

PURPOSE: The symptom of cognitive fatigue is reported as one of the longest lasting and most debilitating symptoms of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Virtual reality may be one of the most suitable technologies for neurorehabilitation, able to integrate evidence-based neuroscientific principles into motivating rehabilitation simulations. The purpose of this study was to seek perspectives of individuals with lived experience of TBI and experienced rehabilitation clinicians in the co-design of a novel technology-based tool for cognitive fatigue after TBI. [Organoids as a milestone on the way to personalized treatment of urothelial carcinoma: a systematic review].

BACKGROUND: The treatment options for locally advanced and metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC) are currently limited to established chemotherapy and immunotherapy protocols. Targeted treatment is so far restricted to a small subgroup of patients. Urothelial organoid systems could make a decisive contribution in establishing effective personalized treatment options by enabling drug response prediction through testing the sensitivity of individual patients. The aim of this article is to describe the state of the science of clinically applicable organoid systems for UC. METHODOLOGY: A systemati
