PURPOSE: Renal radiation during peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) may result in glomerular damage, a potential reduction of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and ultimately lead to renal failure. While reported PRRT nephrotoxicity is limited to data derived from serum creatinine-allowing only approximate estimates of GFR-the aim of this study is to accurately determine PRRT-induced long-term changes of renal function and associated risk factors according to state-of-the-art GFR measurement.

Terlipressin is an analog of the natural hormone arginine-vasopressin. Chyloperitoneum is an uncommon but serious complication following abdominal aortic surgery. As there seems to be no uniformity concerning the treatment, we performed a literature search to evaluate the best treatment results. We used an octapeptide analogue of somatostatin, SMS 201-995, in dosages ranging from 150 to 450 micrograms/d administered subcutaneously in three daily doses for 1 to 16 months, to treat 22 patients with advanced malignant islet cell carcinomas. Four patients with advanced endocrine malignancies were treated with a somatostatin analogue (SMS 201-995) for palliation of hormone-induced symptoms during 3-6 months.
