Prenatal and postpartum residential greenness and behavioral development in early Childhood: Findings from a birth cohort.

BACKGROUND: Early life is a critical window for development, during which environmental exposures can have lasting impacts. While harmful exposures are widely studied, protective factors such as green space remain underexplored. This study examined associations between green space exposure during prenatal and postnatal periods and behavioral development in children aged 2-4 years. METHOD: Data were drawn from the Longitudinal Examination Across Prenatal and Postpartum Health in Taiwan cohort. Information on 408 families collected at early and mid-pregnancy, 1 month postpartum, and 2-4 years p

Exploring cognitive, behavioral and autistic trait network topology in very preterm and term-born children.

INTRODUCTION: Compared to full-term (FT) born peers, children who were born very preterm (VPT; <32 weeks' gestation) are likely to display more cognitive and behavioral difficulties, including inattention, anxiety and socio-communication problems. In the published literature, such difficulties tend to be studied independently, thus failing to account for how different aspects of child development interact. The current study aimed to investigate children's cognitive and behavioral outcomes as interconnected, dynamically related facets of development that influence one another. METHODS: Partici

Neuropsychological profile in Italian children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and their relationships with neuroradiological data: Preliminary results.

BACKGROUND: Neurofibromatosis type 1 is a genetic disorder associated with cognitive deficits, learning disabilities and behavioral problems. These domains appear to have a still controversial debated association with local areas of T2-hyperintensities on MRI images, called unidentified bright objects (UBOs). METHODS: A cohort of 36 children (aged 7-11 years) included consecutively, underwent neuropsychological and behavioral assessment to determine their cognitive and neuropsychological profile, and the frequency of specific learning disabilities. MRI examination was used to determine the im

A study of voice therapy dropout.

Treatment dropout is a consistent problem among behavior change therapies. A recent study by the authors demonstrated that 38% of patients did not attend a voice evaluation after referral by the otolaryngologist. Further, 47% of patients who attended a voice evaluation did not return for therapy. No previous study has set out to document completion/dropout rates for voice therapy, but high rates of attrition are reported as problematic within voice therapy research studies. The purpose of this study was to quantify the problem of voice therapy dropout over the course of voice therapy and to an

Refining the classification of children with selective mutism: a latent profile analysis.

The goal of this study was to develop an empirically derived classification system for selective mutism (SM) using parent-report measures of social anxiety, behavior problems, and communication delays. The sample consisted of parents of 130 children (ages 5-12) with SM. Results from latent profile analysis supported a 3-class solution made up of an anxious-mildly oppositional group, an anxious-communication delayed group, and an exclusively anxious group. Follow-up tests indicated significant group differences on measures of SM symptom severity, externalizing problems, and expressive/receptive

The protective roles of affectionate behaviors and communication on mental quality of life of couples living with fibromyalgia: movement toward a dyadic perspective.

This study assessed the impact of affectionate behaviors and communication problems on the mental quality of life (mQoL) in couples with fibromyalgia. Dyadic multilevel modeling in 204 fibromyalgia couples found that people with fibromyalgia (PwFM) who engaged in high levels of affectionate behaviors with their partner had improved mQoL. There was no significant association between affectionate behaviors and mQoL for their partners. Similarly, when PwFM and their partners had more communication problems within the couple, they had poor mQoL. Both models found that higher levels of pain interfe
