Preliminary results of muscle cuff cervicoplasty in the ewe for the treatment of urinary incontinence.

OBJECTIVE: Muscle cuff cervicoplasty consists of dissecting a strip of the superior slip of the levator ani muscle, by sectioning it flush with the symphysis pubis, and applying it like a cuff around the urethra below the bladder neck. METHODS: We conducted a preliminary study in 12 ewes, including preoperative urodynamic assessment, intravenous urography with retrograde cystography on day 15, and another urodynamic assessment 1 and 3 months after the operation. Two animals died, but the other 10 animals were able to be evaluated. An increase in the urethral functional length with an infracer

[Autotopagnosia ameliorated by looking at the image reflected in a mirror].

A 52-year-old right-handed man presented progressive dystonia and apraxia of his right hand of five years' duration. He also suffered from parkinsonian features such as rigidity or impaired postural reflexes. Serial investigation of brain MRI revealed progressive cerebral atrophy, which started in the left parietal lobe, and subsequently extended to both hemispheres. He was clinically diagnosed as corticobasal degeneration. He could not point at any part of his own body in response to verbal or visual commands. On the other hand, he could point at every part of the examiner's body or of the il

[Voice and vibration sensations in the speech forming organs: clinical and theoretical aspects of rare symptoms specific for schizophrenia].

When studying 750 psychiatric in-patients with psychoses of various diagnostic groups, the symptoms of voice sensations and vibration feelings could only be found among patients with paranoid schizophrenia. In addition, these symptoms were located exclusively in body areas that are involved in the peripheral motor production of voice and speech (areas of head, throat, thorax). In 11 of 15 such cases that could be identified, the sensations of voices and vibrations occurred simultaneously and in identical body parts; in the remaining 4 cases only voices without vibration sensations were reporte

Microstructural neural correlates of maximal grip strength in autistic children: the role of the cortico-cerebellar network and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder features.

The impact of kinesiotaping on functional respiratory outcome in chest injuries-a pilot randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Kinesiotaping (KT) is used as adjunctive therapy for musculoskeletal injuries to relieve pain, improve blood and lymphatic circulation and muscle and fascial function, provide joint support, and promote proprioception. AIM: In this pilot randomized trial, we compared the differences between a group that received KT in addition to standard respiratory physiotherapy and a group that received standard respiratory physiotherapy only. We examined changes in pain intensity and functional respiratory parameters at study entry and on the first day after study enrolment and assessed the fu…

CONCLUSIONS: Gait adaptability in older adults is influenced by interactions among functional connectivity, body composition, muscle strength, and psychological well-being. Cable-Driven Parallel Robot and Force Guidance Method for 3D Spatial Perception Training of Visually Impaired People.

For blind or visually impaired (BVI), the acquisition of three-dimensional (3D) spatial relationships highly depends on touch, proprioception, and active movement experience. Existing training methods are mostly based on 2D tactile graphics or static models and therefore have difficulty providing continuous, controllable, and quantifiable 3D body-motion guidance. To address this issue, this study proposes a 3D spatial perception training method based on cable-driven parallel robot (CDPR) position guidance and virtual-constraint feedback. The CDPR serves as a force-feedback interaction platform…

MRI and US of Normal and Abnormal Digital Nerves.

Digital nerves provide essential sensory innervation to the fingers and toes, playing a crucial role in tactile sensation and proprioception. Injury, inflammation, or entrapment of these nerves can result in sensory deficits, paresthesia, and neuropathic pain. Imaging the digital nerves is technically challenging due to their small caliber, adjacent and similarly appearing vascular bundles, and distal location in the extremities. Accurate evaluation requires detailed anatomic knowledge and optimized protocols using high-frequency US or MRI to ensure proper nerve visualization. Common pathologi…

CONCLUSION: Soft tissue mobilization enhances cervical proprioception more effectively, whereas joint mobilization provides greater improvements in mandibular mobility. Both manual therapy techniques are effective, non-invasive and clinically applicable options for managing TMD in individuals with RA. TRIAL REGISTRAT …

Acute Effect of Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation on Postural Control: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Ankle sprains are common severe injuries leading to changes in muscular activity and postural control impairments. Postural control integrates neural components, including cognitive processing. Due to its relevance, neuromodulation techniques such as percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) have gained attention for improving balance, proprioception, and stability. However, the effects of PTNS on postural control remain insufficiently investigated. This study evaluated the acute effects of PTNS on postural control in healthy individuals. METHODS: Ninety-four healthy particip…

Multimodal analysis of postural control in adults at risk of falls.

Proprioception declines with age, increasing the risk of falls in older adults. Conditions such as osteoporosis, which are highly prevalent in this population, further increase both the risk of falls and the severity of resulting injuries. The aim of this study was to evaluate a 3-week NeuroMuscolar Taping treatment to improve postural control in 10 older adults (> 65 y.o.) with mild osteoporosis. Electroencephalography (EEG) and center of pressure (CoP) signals were recorded during a sensory orientation task of the Mini Balance Evaluation Systems Test before (T0) and after (T1) treatment. Prohibited Olympic Medalist with PIEZO1 VUS Who Claims Innocence.

Competitive athletes are often exposed to extreme physiological loading, resulting in over excessive mechanotransduction during their acute … hydrostatic pressure. However, PIEZO2 was found to be the principal mechanosensory ion channel for proprioception. These regulatory mechanisms play a pivotal role in mechanotransduction and intensive exercise moments. Interestingly, two variances of uncertain significance of PIEZO1 were found that may explain the atypical values of the Athlete. Furthermore, two …

Effect of foot orthoses on balance among individuals with flatfoot: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Individuals with flatfoot have impaired proprioception owing to ligament laxity and impaired tendons, which can result in poor balance. Foot orthoses (FOs) have been reported to stimulate plantar mechanical receptors and are used to manage foot overpronation in individuals with flatfoot. However, the results of the use of FOs to improve balance are inconsistent. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to identify and investigate the effects of FOs on balance in individuals with flatfoot. Electronic databases were searched for articles published before March 2023. Peer-reviewed jo…
