A unique patient with 46, XY agonadism associated with adrenal adenoma/myelolipoma is described. The patient was an 18-year-old female with primary amenorrhea, lack of secondary sexual development and an aldosterone-producing adrenocortical adenoma associated with foci of myelolipoma. Molecular analyses of Y-chromosome-specific regions, including automated sequencing of the entire coding region of SRY, the Y-linked testis-determining gene, were performed. Our results excluded the possibility that a mutation in SRY was responsible for this unusual clinical combination.

Repeated cycles of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) have been reported to be successful in a few patients with idiopathic pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) or associated with another pathology. The efficacy of this treatment for PRCA with thymoma has not been reported previously. We describe here the case of a 75-yr-old man who presented with PRCA associated with a benign thymoma. After failure of thymectomy, corticosteroids and octreotide, a complete durable remission was obtained after a single 5-d cycle of IVIG.

The authors report 20 cases of adrenal cortex tumours which were collected over a period of 12 years (1984-1995). Sixty five per cent of patients were females. They were aged between 27 months and 85 years with a mean of 40 years. Clinical symptoms were dominated by hypertension (11 cases). Our followup study of 48 patients with primary aldosteronism concerns the results of 2 different operative methods. After preoperative localization of the unilateral solitary tumor 22 patients underwent unilateral adrenalectomy and 26 underwent enucleation of aldosterone-producing adenoma. Stage 4S neuroblastoma is an unusual malignancy that has an excellent prognosis, except in young infants. A 2-month-old with 4S neuroblastoma complicated by massive hepatomegaly, managed by abdominal decompression surgery and a negative-pressure dressing system is presented.
