Ninety eyes undergoing surgery for the removal of traumatic cataracts were evaluated. In the total group, the visual results fell generally into the 2 categories of satisfactory or poor. Most commonly, the latter patients sustained extensive preoperative trauma or were visually immature at the time of the injury. Forty-eight eyes, or 54% of this series, achieved an acuity of 20/80 or better, with 38, or 42%, achieving a corrected acuity of 20/20 to 20/30. There were 20 eyes in the patients 6 years of age and under, and a visual result of 20/60 or better was obtained in 7 of those eyes.

Are presented the results obtained by artificial lens pupillary implant (Fedorov) at 22 eyes, 18 patients between 48-81 years old, to which the development of cataracta was characterized by a great difference between the eyes. We reviewed 19 cases of delayed-onset pseudophakic endophthalmitis in which diagnostic cultures were performed at one month or more after cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. Evaluation of the eye fundus after an extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber lens implantation was performed in 50 patients 1 month after surgery and in 50 another patients 2 years after surgery. In the earlier period a very good inspection was possible in 88 p.c. of cases, 2 years after cataract extraction in 78 p.c. The usefulness of bilateral ophthalmoscopy was emphasized.

We studied the contralateral eye of ten consecutive patients in whom corneal decompensation had occurred following cataract extraction to detect the beginnings of any corneal disease in that eye. Patients with a previous history of surgery, trauma, or ocular disease were excluded. In my previous prospective study of 132 eyes, the incidence of clinically significant cystoid macular edema was 42% in aphakic penetrating keratoplasty, 33% in combined keratoplasty and cataract extraction with vitrectomy, and only 4% in combined keratoplasty and cataract extraction without vitrectomy.
