PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of three lubricants of varying viscosity, on postinsertion and 6 h comfort with contact lens wear.
METHODS: Comfort and associated symptoms of dryness were assessed in 15 experienced contact lens wearers. Subjects wore a low Dk lens in one eye and a silicone hydrogel in the other and participated in four separate trials involving no lubricant (baseline), saline, and two commercially available lubricants of differing viscosity. The in-eye lubricants were used immediately following lens insertion and every 2 h postinsertion for a 6 h wear period.

PURPOSE: The occurrence of choroidal detachment (CD) in eyes with primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is relatively uncommon (2%-4.5%). Recent reports suggest that primary vitrectomy yields better anatomic success than scleral buckling. However, for these inflamed eyes with low intraocular pressure, the influence of preoperative oral steroids on reattachment rates has not been elucidated yet.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal perfluoropropane gas injection to treat hypotony after cataract surgery.
SETTING: The ophthalmology department of a major tertiary medical center.
METHODS: After uneventful cataract extraction, 5 patients with hypotony due to iridocyclitis, choroidal detachment, and serous retinal detachment were treated with an intravitreal injection of 1.0 cc of perfluoropropane gas.
RESULTS: The hypotony, choroidal detachment, and exudative retinal detachment resolved in all 5 patients, and visual acuity improved. No complications were observed
