INTRODUCTION: Chronic hand eczema (CHE) is a common skin inflammation with a complex pathophysiology. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, Portulaca oleracea L. (purslane) is traditionally used in Persian medicine for skin ailments. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a standardized purslane extract (based on traditional Persian medicine) for adults with mild or moderately severe CHE.
METHODS: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted at Razi Hospital in Iran from January to June 2022. Participants were randomly allocated to receive an

BACKGROUND: Hairdressers are at high risk of contact dermatitis (CD) due to skin exposure to numerous irritants and haptens in hair products in combination with frequent wet work.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the characteristics and incidence of CD among hairdressers in north-eastern Italy.
METHODS: A total of 324 hairdressers who had been examined and patch tested in north-eastern Italy from 1996 to 2016 were retrospectively identified, and compared with 9669 matched controls. Sensitization to allergens of the hairdressing series was analysed among hairdressers attending an occupational medic

BACKGROUND: From the available literature, it is demonstrated that dematiaceous fungal infections mostly affect immunosuppressed patients. These infections can occur in different forms, from subcutaneous infection to disseminated forms that may compromise the life of the patient. In many cases the infection is related to the inoculation of the microorganism by diverse traumatic mechanisms, which determines the course of the infection to be slower in some cases.
CASE REPORT: We describe two cases of phaeohyphomycosis caused by Phaeoacremonium parasiticum: A cancer patient with subcutaneous les

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease with a genetic background. Local psoriatic changes can be triggered by exogenous mechanical or irritant factors. Causative occupational factors have to be distinguished from the spontaneous course of psoriasis in occupational medical evaluations. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the medico-legal grounds for a homogenous assessment.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The presented recommendations were developed in a working group for Occupational and Environmental Dermatology (ABD) and the German contact dermatitis group (DKG) of the German De

Recurrent digital ulcers are manifestations of vascular disease in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). We report six patients with severe digital ulcers who were treated with bosentan administered p.o., 62.5-125 mg daily. The mean duration from the diagnosis of SSc to the initiation of bosentan was 9.5 years, and the observation period after bosentan administration was from 7 months to 4.5 years. In case 1, neither new digital ulcers nor Raynaud's phenomenon developed for 4.5 years. In case 2, digital ulcers recurred after the discontinuation of bosentan; however, re-administration of bose

We report a rare case of onychomycosis due to Arthrographis kalrae, and describe an attempt to elucidate the source of the infection by fungal isolation and PCR-based methods for detection of A. kalrae. The patient was a 63-year-old Japanese man, whose fingernails, excluding the right index finger, were markedly dystrophic. Microscopic examination of his fingernails disclosed hyaline hyphae and arthroconidia. The causal agent was identified as A. kalrae based on morphological characteristics and ITS region sequencing. The fungus was susceptible in vitro to terbinafine, itraconazole, and micona
