New nortriterpenoid isolated from anti-rheumatoid arthritic plant, Tripterygium wilfordii, modulates tumor growth and neovascularization.

Preparations of Tripterygium wilfordii, "Thunder God vine", have been used in China to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis, as well as solid tumors, is closely associated with neovascularization. Antiarthritic drugs therefore may modulate tumor growth as well as neovascularization. We found that a compound purified from T. wilfordii, the nortriterpenoid, demethylzeylasteral (TZ-93), inhibited the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells approximately 30 times more effectively than it did for the proliferation of human tumor cells. In in vitro assays using bovine aortic endothel

Shenling Baizhu Powder and Betulin attenuate sepsis-induced intestinal injury by targeting GADD45B/TAOK1/p38 MAPK pathway.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Enhanced apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells during sepsis results in impaired barrier function, facilitating the influx of bacteria and endotoxins into the bloodstream, which worsens the organism's damage. Therefore, addressing intestinal injury in sepsis may represent a novel approach to treatment. Shenling Baizhu Powder (SLBZP), a classical traditional Chinese medicine formula, has been widely used for the treatment of Inflammatory diseases including sepsis. However, its potential mechanisms of action in sepsis-induced intestinal injury remain unclear.

Ursolic acid suppresses gastric cancer by targeting the miR-27a-3p/Wnt/β-catenin signaling axis.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a common type of cancer known for its challenges in early detection and unfavorable prognosis. The pathway involving Wnt/β-catenin and the improper regulation of microRNAs (miRNAs), especially miR-27a-3p, are crucial in the advancement of GC. Ursolic acid (UA), which is a naturally occurring anticancer agent, shows promise in the inhibition of GC. Although UA's anticancer effects have been recognized, the underlying molecular mechanisms in GC remain incompletely defined. Our findings indicate that UA strongly restricts the expansion, motility, and invasive behavior of GC

Ursolic acid reduces hepatocellular apoptosis and alleviates alcohol-induced liver injury via irreversible inhibition of CASP3 in vivo.

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is one of the pathogenic factors of chronic liver disease with the highest clinical morbidity worldwide. Ursolic acid (UA), a pentacyclic terpenoid carboxylic acid, has shown many health benefits including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and hepatoprotective activities. We previously found that UA was metabolized in vivo into epoxy-modified UA containing an epoxy electrophilic group and had the potential to react with nucleophilic groups. In this study we prepared an alkynyl-modified UA (AM-UA) probe for tracing and capturing the target protein of UA
