Increased Indoleamine 2, 3-Dioxygenase expression modulates Th1/Th17/Th22 and Treg pathway in humans with Helicobacter Pylori-Infected gastric mucosa.

Introduction and purposeIndoleamine 2, 3- dioxygenase (IDO) plays an importantrole in immunosuppressive pathway, as inhibits responsesof T cells and promotes immune tolerance. Host responsetoHelicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is involved in the infection persistenceand it is also associatedwith different clinical outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of IDO in H. pylori-infected patients with gastritis diseases and peptic ulcer diseases (PUD) through the assessment of the relationship among IDO protein expression and the numbers of T helper (Th)-1, Th17, Th22, and T regulato

A scoping review of breakthrough cancer pain: Multidimensional patient needs and influencing factors.

ObjectivesBreakthrough cancer pain (BTcP), a common complication among cancer patients, has been confirmed to have extensive impacts on patients' lives. However, existing research remains fragmented, lacking a systematic theoretical framework to integrate these findings. This scoping review aimed to systematically examine the multidimensional needs and influencing factors of BTcP patients based on Kolcaba's Comfort Theory, construct a conceptual mapping of BTcP needs and influences, and explore the theoretical foundations and practical pathways of related interventions.MethodsUsing a scoping r

Early Experience with Tarlatamab (T-Cell Engagers) for Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer (ES-SCLC) in Canada: Lessons Learned and Implementation Strategies.

As bispecific T-cell engagers (TCEs) gain traction in the oncology treatment landscape, cancer centres must develop robust clinical pathways to ensure their safe and efficient delivery. Given the limited experience of the Canadian medical oncology community with TCEs, collecting and publishing early clinical experiences with these novel agents will be essential to inform best practices and support their safe and effective adoption across the broader Canadian oncology community. The approval of tarlatamab, the first-in-class delta-like ligand 3 (DLL3)-targeted TCE for extensive-stage small cell

Opioid Use at End-Of-Life Among Nova Scotia Patients With Cancer.

Purpose: To determine the factors associated with opioid analgesic prescriptions as measured by community pharmacy dispensations to all Nova Scotia (NS) patients with cancer at end-of-life from 2005 to 2009. Methods: The NS Cancer Registry and the NS Prescription Monitoring Program (NSPMP) were used to link Nova Scotians who had a cancer diagnosis and received a prescription for opioids in their last year of life (n = 6,186) from 2005 to 2009. The association of factors with opioid dispensations at end-of-life were determined (e.g., patient demographics, type of prescriber, type of cancer, and

Concurrent evolution of cancer cachexia and heart failure: bilateral effects exist.

Cancer cachexia is defined as a multifactorial syndrome of involuntary weight loss characterized by an ongoing loss of skeletal muscle mass and progressive functional impairment. It is postulated that cardiac dysfunction/atrophy parallels skeletal muscle atrophy in cancer cachexia. Cardiotoxic chemotherapy may additionally result in cardiac dysfunction and heart failure in some cancer patients. Heart failure thus may be a consequence of either ongoing cachexia or chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity; at the same time, heart failure can result in cachexia, especially muscle wasting. Therefore, t

Bridging Perspectives: How Canadian Patients and Caregivers View Quality of Life in Multiple Myeloma Compared to Validated Instruments.

Background: Validated patient- and caregiver-reported outcome (PRO and CRO) questionnaires are widely used to assess quality of life (QoL) in multiple myeloma (MM). However, most were developed before recent therapeutic advances that have modified disease trajectories and may no longer fully reflect patients' and caregivers' experiences. Profiling of Small Nucleolar RNAs by Next Generation Sequencing: Potential New Players for Breast Cancer Prognosis.

One of the most abundant, yet least explored, classes of RNA is the small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), which are well known for their involvement in post-transcriptional modifications of other RNAs. Although snoRNAs were only considered to perform housekeeping functions for a long time, recent studies have highlighted their importance as regulators of gene expression and as diagnostic/prognostic markers. However, the prognostic potential of these RNAs has not been interrogated for breast cancer (BC). The objective of the current study was to identify snoRNAs as prognostic markers for BC. Small RN

The global, regional, and national burden of cancer, 1990-2023, with forecasts to 2050: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023.

BACKGROUND: Cancer is a leading cause of death globally. Accurate cancer burden information is crucial for policy planning, but many countries do not have up-to-date cancer surveillance data. To inform global cancer-control efforts, we used the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 framework to generate and analyse estimates of cancer burden for 47 cancer types or groupings by age, sex, and 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2023, cancer burden attributable to selected risk factors from 1990 to 2023, and forecasted cancer burden up to 2050. Cannabis in Hematology Survey Study (CHESS): A Longitudinal Investigation on Uses, Attitudes, and Outcomes of Cannabis Among Hematology Patients Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant.

Cancer patients use cannabis for medicinal purposes; however, few studies have examined hematology patients' use of cannabis and no research to our knowledge has investigated the use of cannabis amongst hematology patients before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT). The purpose of this longitudinal survey study was to assess aspects of cannabis use in patients who underwent HCT. Eligible patients (N = 30) completed two surveys before and 90 days following their HCT.
