INTRODUCTION: The rapid expansion of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) use for weight management and diabetes has raised perioperative questions, particularly regarding delayed gastric emptying and infection risk. Emerging real-world data suggest a more nuanced perioperative profile. This scoping review synthesizes evidence on preoperative GLP-1 RA exposure and postoperative outcomes across orthopaedic procedures, with emphasis on soft-tissue sports medicine, and is intended to map associative perioperative outcomes rather than establish causality.

BACKGROUND: Evaluating shoulder proprioception provides functional data that supplement imaging for the diagnosis/rehabilitation of rotator cuff injuries. There is a need for a system capable of establishing normal ranges for proprioceptive accuracy in healthy shoulders during unrestricted 3-dimensional motion.
PURPOSE: To conduct passive joint position sense (JPS) testing in men and women with no history of shoulder injury using a novel testing system, identifying differences in proprioceptive accuracy based on sex, shoulder elevation, and crossbody position.

BACKGROUND: Injuries remain a significant problem for professional baseball players. There is little information regarding the incidence and outcomes of shoulder surgical procedures among these athletes.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: To report the incidence, pathology, procedure type, demographics, and return-to-sport (RTS) rate of shoulder surgery among Major League Baseball (MLB) players. Most shoulder procedures would be performed on pitchers with a history of injury; the labrum would be the most commonly involved; and that the RTS rate would be >50%.
STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive epidemiology study.

BACKGROUND: Treatment for displaced proximal humeral fractures is still under debate. Poor rotator cuff status and non-union of the tubercles in elderly patients has caused reversed total shoulder prosthesis growing popularity and showed promising results, even in comparison to angular stable plates fixation. The purpose of this study is to report clinical and radiological results of proximal humerus fractures treated with rTSA or ORIF in elderly.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study has investigated retrospectively a consecutive series of 73 patients over 65 years old (range 65-91) with proximal

BACKGROUND: The original Grammont Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (RTSA) increases the deltoid moment arm by medializing the centre of rotation, which is biomechanically advantageous. However, excessive tension can also produce complications, being one of the main risk factors for nerve injury. The purpose of the present study was to correlate arm lengthening after a medialized RTSA implant with functional outcomes and neurological injuries in the setting of rotator cuff tear arthropathy (CTA).
METHODS: Prospective cohort study enrolled 40 consecutive patients who underwent RSA for CTA. E

CASE: A 74-year-old female developed left shoulder pain after receiving an influenza vaccine. Her initial physical exam was suggestive of subacromial bursitis, and a corticosteroid injection into the subacromial space resulted in a 50% improvement in her pain. Subsequent MRI demonstrated myositis isolated to the infraspinatus muscle. She was successfully treated with anti-inflammatory medication and physical therapy.
CONCLUSION: Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) is a rare clinical complication, and myositis in the rotator cuff musculature has not been previously report

BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to examine long-term, greater-than-ten-year outcomes of patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tears treated nonoperatively.MethodsPatients with a chronic, full-thickness rotator cuff tear (demonstrated on imaging) who were referred by their physician for shoulder surgery were enrolled in this prospective study between October 2008 and September 2010. Patients then participated in a comprehensive nonoperative treatment program. After the three-month program, patients were defined as "successful" or "failed." "Successful" patients were essentially asym

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Arthrofibrosis is a severe scarring condition characterized by joint stiffness and pain. Fundamental to developing arthrofibrotic scars is the accelerated production of procollagen I, a precursor of collagen I molecules that form fibrotic deposits in affected joints. The procollagen I production mechanism comprises numerous elements, including enzymes, protein chaperones, and growth factors. This study aimed to elucidate the differences in the production of vital elements of this mechanism in surgical patients who developed significant posttraumatic arthrofibrosis and thos

BACKGROUND: Few studies define the clinical signs to evaluate the integrity of teres minor in patients with massive rotator cuff tears. CT and MRI, with or without an arthrogram, can be limited by image quality, soft tissue density, motion artifact, and interobserver reliability. Additionally, the ill-defined junction between the infraspinatus and teres minor and the larger muscle-to-tendon ratio of the teres minor can contribute to error. Therefore, we wished to determine the validity of clinical testing for teres minor tears.
QUESTION/PURPOSES: The aim of this study was to determine the acc

In this retrospective study, a latissimus dorsi transfer as first described by Gerber in 1988 was performed in 12 patients with massive, irreparable rotator cuff tears. Their average age was 59 years and the preliminary results are reported here after an average follow-up of 39 months. In 50% of the patients there was no pain and 41% had mild to moderate pain at follow-up. Functional Constant scoring was excellent in 42%, good in 8%, moderate in 42% and poor in 8%. Active range of motion in the shoulder improved significantly in external rotation and abduction. Abduction force as measured with

INTRODUCTION: During the healing process, the functional gradient attachment of the rotator cuff (RC) tendon-bone interface fails to regenerate, which severely impedes load transfer and stress dissipation, thereby increasing the risk of retears. As a result, the treatment of rotator cuff tears remains a significant clinical challenge.
METHODS: In this study, a dual-crosslinked hyaluronic acid/polyethylene glycol (HA/PEG) hydrogel scaffold was synthesized using hyaluronic acid and polyethylene glycol as base materials. Manganese-doped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Mn-MSN) were incorporated

Partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) are difficult to treat. Conservative treatment typically includes physical therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and injectables (e.g., corticosteroid injections, hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma [PRP], stem cells). Recent studies have demonstrated that PRP alone or in combination with other injectables (e.g., PRP + hyaluronic acid) provides a positive short-term therapeutic benefit in patients with PTRCTs. Yet, effects tend to diminish after 1 year. Up to 42% of patients with PTRCTs treated conservatively exhibit tear progression nec

AIM: We reviewed the last decade of literature to update a previous publication on this topic by the senior author. In New Zealand, traumatic causation has implications for entitlement for treatment though the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). Acuity and chronicity may also be relevant in determining repairability.
METHODS: Literature was reviewed regarding acromial morphology, greater tuberosity (GT) cysts, acromiohumeral interval (AHI), fatty degeneration and atrophy, acromioclavicular (AC) arthrosis, tendinopathy, bursal changes and other features.

BACKGROUND: Superior capsular reconstruction (SCR) is a procedure purported to restore stability of the glenohumeral joint after an irreparable rotator cuff tear, but the in vivo behavior of the graft is unknown. Previous work has not evaluated the relationship between graft deformation, kinematics, and healing.
PURPOSE: To (1) determine regional graft elongation after SCR, (2) determine if graft elongation is related to graft healing, and (3) identify associations between graft elongation and changes in kinematics from presurgery to postsurgery.
