The use of 1,3-diamino-2-propanol with competitive N- and O-nucleophilic centers in a three-component cyclization with ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoroacetoacetate and methyl ketones enables the synthesis to be carried out for octahydropyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-6-ones and hexahydrooxazolo[3,2-a]pyridin-5-ones, the preferential formation of which depends on the substituent in the methyl ketone component. Dual acid-base catalysis of the reactions with alkyl methyl ketones increases the regioselectivity in the synthesis of octahydropyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidinones. In water/2-propanol mixtures [RhCl(mtppms)(3)] (mtppms = monosulfonated triphenylphosphine) was an efficient catalyst for the selective C=C reduction of trans-3-phenyl-2-propenal (trans-cinnamaldehyde) by hydrogen transfer from formate at temperatures as low as 30 °C. A spin-probe ESR study has been made on the dynamics of 2-propanol and water molecules in the nanochannel of MCM-41 at various temperatures. The mixture of 2-propanol with water has been employed to extract Au(III) along with other precious metals such as Pd(II) and Pt(IV) by using NaCl in the concentration range of 2.5-4.0 mol dm(-3). Upon the addition of NaCl within this concentration range (2.5-4.0 mol dm(-3)) phase separation was attained. In this study, we synthesized eight novel 1-phenyl-2-(4-substituted-piperazin-1-yl)-propanol derivatives and evaluated their antidepressant-like activities. Cyproterone acetate (CA) was toxic for Didelphis virginiana at a dose range of 22-28 mg/kg IM. A loss of spermatozoal pairing int the cauda epididymidis did not occur until 2 wk after testicular degeneration caused by CA. The isomers of 1-amino-3-chloro-2-propanol hydrochloride (CL 88,236 and CL 88,237) were well tolerated by the opossum at doses up to 30 mg/kg IM. After 8 days of CL 88,236 and CL 88,237 treatment there was no effect on spermatozoal pairing in the cauda epididymidis or on the seminiferous epithelium.
