The co-occurrence of tic disorders and ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) is common; however, the significant overlap in their symptoms and underlying mechanisms frequently poses questions for diagnosis and treatment. The interaction between tic disorders and ADHD involves intricate genetic and neurobiologic factors, particularly related to inhibitory processes and cortico-striato-thalamic pathways in the brain. While both conditions present shared and specific challenges, studies suggest that ADHD symptoms often pose a greater burden on patients than tics. Therefore addressing AD

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Verbal fluency, an important aspect of executive function, is often impaired in attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, findings across studies have been inconsistent regarding age groups and comorbid conditions. This meta-analysis examined verbal fluency in both children and adults with ADHD, including studies that reported common comorbidities (e.g., oppositional defiant disorder [ODD], conduct disorder [CD], and anxiety disorders), while excluding studies including autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, ScienceDirec

Metabolomics research offers promising potential for identifying key metabolites and exploring the pathophysiological underpinnings of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, serum metabolomics in ADHD remains largely uncharted. Our study aimed to search for metabolomic biomarkers in children with ADHD. 70 drug-naïve children diagnosed with ADHD according to DSM-5 criteria and 70 sex-, age-, IQ-matched healthy controls were recruited from the National Taiwan University Hospital. All participants were assessed for clinical and ADHD symptoms using the Clinical Global Impression

BACKGROUND: Raynaud syndrome (RS) is a peripheral vasculopathy characterised be impaired acral perfusion typically manifesting as skin discolouration with pallor, cyanosis and/or erythema, and increased sensitivity to cold. RS may be primary or secondary to systemic disease, lifestyle and environmental factors or medication. RS has been reported with medication to treat ADHD, but we found no recent comprehensive overview of the literature. The aim of this review is to evaluate the evidence in the published literature for Raynaud syndrome associated with medication for ADHD.

INTRODUCTION: Sleep disorders are common yet often underdiagnosed in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These disturbances can exacerbate ADHD symptoms and negatively affect cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other sleep disorders in children with ADHD using standardized diagnostic criteria and to identify associated clinical and behavioral factors.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 629 children aged 6-12 years (mean age: 7.8 ± 1.5 years) who were diagnos

BACKGROUND: Approximately 7.6% of children are diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and sleep impairments affect 25-85%. There is a noticeable lack of research on girls and sex differences. The aim of this study was to examine sex differences in children with uncomplicated ADHD and sleep problems.
METHODS: Cross-sectional baseline data were retrieved from a randomized controlled trial with weighted blankets (55 boys and 41 girls, 6-14 years) on a cohort recently diagnosed with uncomplicated ADHD and sleep problems. Differences between boys and girls in ADHD symptoms

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been reported to be associated with primary chronic pain syndromes, such as fibromyalgia, migraine, and chronic low back pain. Although idiopathic orofacial pain (IOP) is classified as burning mouth syndrome or persistent idiopathic facial or dentoalveolar pain and as a primary chronic pain, the association between IOP and ADHD has not been investigated. This retrospective cohort study investigated the severity of ADHD symptoms measured using the ADHD scale and the effects of treatment using ADHD drugs and the dopamine system stabilizer aripi

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood and is characterized by inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Observations of distributed functional abnormalities in ADHD suggest aberrant large-scale brain network connectivity. However, few studies have measured the voxel-wise network centrality of boys with ADHD, which captures the functional relationships of a given voxel within the entire connectivity matrix of the brain. Here, to examine the network patterns characterizing children with ADHD, we recruited 47 boy

OBJECTIVE: The prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the general pediatric population is 7%, whereas the prevalence in trauma is unknown. We hypothesized pediatric patients with ADHD would have a higher risk of involvement in a mechanism of injury (MOI) requiring constant attention to surroundings, such as a bicycle collision.
METHODS: The Pediatric Trauma Quality Improvement Program (2014-2016) was queried for patients with ADHD. Patients, less than 16 years of age, with ADHD were compared to those without ADHD.
RESULTS: The prevalence of ADHD was 2.5% (2,866). AD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent psychiatric disorders in children and the pathophysiology remains obscure. Some studies show that lipid imbalances are associated with ADHD etiology. We studied the association of serum total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglyceride (TG) levels in ADHD. We examined 88 children aged 8-12 years who were diagnosed with ADHD and 88 healthy children. The exclusion criteria were as follows: obesity, any psychotropic use in the last 3 months, presence of a chronic disease a

The use of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medications during pregnancy has increased in recent years. An earlier article in this column examined whether psychostimulant medications, used to treated ADHD and related disorders, increase the risk of major congenital malformations in pregnancies with first trimester exposure to these drugs. This article examines whether amphetamines, methylphenidate, and atomoxetine exposure during early and late pregnancy are associated with other adverse gestational outcomes. One large and 4 small studies provided data relevant to the inquiry. I

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to describe the laryngeal anatomy, perceptual, acoustic, and aerodynamic vocal characteristics of school-aged children with and without Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The predisposition that children with ADHD have for laryngeal injuries are recurrent in nature and are more often than not overlooked as laryngitis. Previous studies have reported varied results on the prevalence rates of pediatric vocal fold nodules within the school-aged ADHD population.

INTRODUCTION: Atypical asymmetry in brain activity has been implicated in the behavioral and attentional dysregulation observed in ADHD. Specifically, asymmetry in neural activity in the right versus left frontal regions has been linked to ADHD, as well as to symptoms often associated with ADHD such as heightened approach behaviors, impulsivity and difficulties with inhibition. Clarifying the role of frontal asymmetry in ADHD-like traits, such as disinhibition, may provide information on the neurophysiological processes underlying these behaviors.
