Lower extremity stress fractures are relatively common among competitive athletes. Stress fractures of the upper extremity, however, are rare and most have been reported in the literature as case reports. We present a case of an adolescent baseball pitcher who had both proximal humeral and ulnar shaft stress fractures, as well as spondylolysis of the lumbar spine. This particular patient also had an underlying endocrine abnormality of secondary hyperparathyroidism with a deficiency in vitamin D. Injuries to the upper extremity often involve bone and soft-tissue elements, as do injuries to the lower extremity. Proper reconstruction of the soft-tissue deficits in concert with bone restoration is essential to final recovery. Better understanding of the blood supply and newer concepts of managing severely injured limbs has improved the ability to manage these challenging problems.

BACKGROUND: Although primary bone tumors are relatively uncommon, they constitute the most important tumors in patients less than 20 years. We aimed to determine the frequencies of primary bone tumors and tumor-like lesions of bone and the anatomical sites of their occurrence.
METHODS: A retrospective review of histopathology reports of all bone specimens received in a private pathology laboratory in Istanbul between 2009 and 2015.
RESULTS: A total of 57 patients (aged 5 to 18 years) with a mean of 13.12 years were studied. Thirty five patients (61.4%) were males and 22 (38.6%) were females.

Mangling injuries of the upper extremity are severe, high-energy traumas that damage multiple functional systems including skin, nerves, vascular, tendon, and bone. Management requires familiarity with various techniques in orthopedic, vascular, and plastic surgery. A specific technique cannot be described due to the various combinations of injuries that can occur with mangled upper extremities, but we present principles and recommendations for treatment and judgment.
