Breast cancer causes more deaths among all types of cancers. Efforts have been put to study the change in temperature distribution profile of the breast in presence of an abnormality. By applying Pennes's bio-heat equation, a 2D finite element model is developed for the heat transfer mechanism. Surface temperature gradients due to the presence of abnormalities at various depths and sizes are analyzed. The concentrations of 16 alpha-hydroxydehydroepi-androsterone sulfate (16 alpha-OHDHAS) and androst-5-ene-3 beta, 16 alpha-, 17 beta-triol-3-sulfate (A-TriolS) were measured in the plasma and breast cyst fluid (BCF) of women with gross cystic disease of the breast. Estriol-3-sulfate (E3-3S) was assayed in 92 specimens of human breast cyst fluid (BCF) obtained by needle aspiration from women with fibrocystic disease. We performed a retrospective review of 5375 aspirations performed during the last 16 years of noncomplex cysts. Cytology results and outcomes following aspirations of simple and complicated cysts performed by the senior author at our institution were reviewed. Complex cysts with associated solid components which were core biopsied are excluded from this review. Gross cystic disease of the breast (GCD) is rarely seen after the menopause. Recent work has shown that by measuring electrolytes in the breast cyst fluid (BCF) it is possible to identify two principal classes of cyst, designated Type 1 (K+/Na+ greater than 1.5) and Type 2 (K+/Na+ less than 0.66). In this study, we applied the antibody against the molecular weight 15,000 protein purified from breast cyst fluid (GCDFP-15) to cutaneous tissue, especially to sweat glands. Sistrunk procedure for thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) includes removal of the thyroglossal cyst, middle portion of the hyoid bone and the tract towards the foramen caecum. Endoscopic approaches have surpassed the traditional open approaches for the treatment of benign thyroid swellings and TGDCs. Endoscopic Sistrunk procedure using bilateral axillo-breast approach is a safe and better alternative for the successful treatment of TGDC and provides excellent cosmetic results.
