We fully documented the diagnostic process of three hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) cases without typical asymmetric myocardial hypertrophy, including medical histories, imaging, and laboratory tests, ultimately confirming the diagnosis through genetic testing. Case 1 presented with segmental wall motion abnormalities with thrombosis, requiring differentiation from coronary atherosclerotic heart disease; case 2 presented with restrictive hemodynamic changes that could be confused with restrictive cardiomyopathy such as amyloidosis; case 3 occurred in a pediatric setting and showed diffuse an

Löffler endocarditis is a serious complication of idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome characterized by a peculiar type of fibrosing endocarditis. It results in heart failure due to restrictive cardiomyopathy and systemic embolism due to intracardiac thrombus. Here we present a case of a 57-year-old man with Löffler endocarditis concomitant with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. A thrombus in the left ventricular apex was noted on transthoracic echocardiography performed as a screening of left ventricular dilatation, which seemed to be a typical finding of Löffler endocarditis. B

INTRODUCTION: Diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (SSc) is rare in children, but has a poor prognosis when cardiomyopathy is present.
METHODS: We reviewed the case of a 14-year-old female with progressive skin thickening/tightness and dyspnea on exertion who was diagnosed with SSc.
RESULTS: Our patient was found to have severe restrictive cardiomyopathy with poor left ventricular systolic function (ejection fraction = 20%), unresponsive to the immunosuppression used to treat her SSc. There was no evidence of pulmonary fibrosis. The patient underwent orthotopic cardiac transplantation, with

Veterinary radiology & ultrasound : the official journal of the American College of Veterinary Radiology and the International Veterinary Radiology Association2005eng
A 6-year-old female cat developed pleural and abdominal effusion. Cardiac ultrasound and 2D color tissue Doppler imaging revealed restrictive cardiomyopathy with severe biatrial dilatation and hypertension. This cardiomyopathy was associated with atrial septal aneurysm and a patent foramen ovale. The atrial septal aneurysm involved the entire atrial septum. Necropsy and histological examination confirmed all these findings. ASA is a rare malformation and, as in this cat, it generally occurs concomitantly with congenital or acquired heart disease and may be explained by greater pressure in one

BACKGROUND: The causes of cardiomyopathy in children are less well described than in adults. We evaluated the clinical diagnoses and genetic causes of childhood cardiomyopathy and outcomes of cascade genetic testing in family members.
METHODS: We recruited children from a pediatric cardiology service or genetic heart diseases clinic. We performed Sanger, gene panel, exome or genome sequencing and classified variants for pathogenicity using American College of Molecular Genetics and Genomics guidelines.
RESULTS: Cardiomyopathy was diagnosed in 221 unrelated children aged ≤18 years. Children m

We present the case of a 58-year-old man with negative T waves in the inferior and lateral leads observed on a routine ECG in the context of persistent peripheral eosinophilia, 6 months after an intestinal parasitic infection. The diagnostic workup excluded coronary artery disease and led to a diagnosis of endomyocardial fibrosis with apical thrombosis. Endomyocardial fibrosis, also known as Loeffler endocarditis, represents the cardiac involvement of the hypereosinophilic syndrome, resulting in a cardiomyopathy with a restrictive phenotype. After initiating specific therapy, further investiga

Mice genetically modified to produce low levels (approximately 1% of wild-type) of coagulation FVII presented with echocardiographic evidence of heart abnormalities. Decreases in ventricular size and reductions in systolic and diastolic functions were found, suggestive of a restrictive cardiomyopathy and consistent with an infiltrative myopathic process. Microscopic analysis of mouse hearts showed severe patchy fibrosis in the low-FVII mice. Haemosiderin deposition was discovered in hearts of these mice, along with increases in inflammatory cell number, ultimately resulting in widespread colla

We present a case of a middle-aged man with recent onset of vague chest pain. On dynamic contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, he was found to have a double outlet right ventricle (DORV) and restrictive/infiltrative cardiomyopathy. These two conditions are not known associations and could be two entirely different entities.

A 40-year-old woman with history of atopy and peripheral eosinophilia presented with clinical signs of heart failure. Echocardiography revealed a restrictive cardiomyopathy with biventricular thrombi. Hypereosinophilic syndrome resulting in eosinophilic myocarditis (Loeffler's syndrome) was diagnosed. This case highlights the workup, diagnosis, and management of hypereosinophilic syndrome with eosinophilic myocarditis. (Level of Difficulty: Advanced.).

Loeffler endocarditis is an uncommon restrictive cardiomyopathy associated with eosinophilia and endomyocardial fibrosis causing diastolic restriction, predominantly involving the right ventricle. Cardiac MRI plays a crucial role in early detection of disease. Early disease usually responds well to corticosteroids. We describe a case of Loeffler endocarditis with isolated left ventricular involvement on MRI in a young male having hypereosinophilia.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether viral infection acts as a trigger factor for the development of dilated cardiomyopathy in genetically predisposed individuals with a family history of disease.
SETTING: Patients attending the cardiomyopathy unit in a cardiac tertiary referral centre.
DESIGN: Nested polymerase chain reaction (nPCR) was used to determine whether enteroviral, adenoviral, or cytomegaloviral nucleic acids were detectable in the myocardium of 19 asymptomatic relatives of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy; all these relatives had echocardiographic abnormalities thought to repres

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the potential association between neutrophil degranulation and patterns of myocardial dysfunction in a cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
BACKGROUND: Two distinct phenotypes of diabetic cardiomyopathy have been described: a restrictive phenotype with diastolic dysfunction (restrictive/DD) and a dilative phenotype with systolic dysfunction (dilative/SD). However, the underlying determinants of these two patterns are not yet recognized.
METHODS: In this single-centre, observational, cross-sectional study, 492 patients were recruited. Ultrasonogra

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is an infiltrative, restrictive cardiomyopathy caused by amyloid fibril deposition in the myocardium. Light chain CA is a rapidly progressive disease with a median survival <1 year if untreated. We present a case of light chain CA in a middle-aged woman that had significant delays in diagnosis despite classic presentation findings, including pseudoinfarction electrocardiographic pattern.

We report a 30 year female with rheumatic mitral stenosis, presenting with progressive right heart failure without overt leftheart symptoms. Rapid progression to severe right heart failure with moderate pericardial effusion prompted the diagnosis of associated restrictive cardiomyopathy. A MRI scan of the heart revealed diffuse subendocardial scarring of LV and RV explaining patient's rapid downhill course.

Cardiomyopathies represent a heterogeneous group of diseases that negatively affect heart function. Primary cardiomyopathies specifically target the myocardium, and may arise from genetic [hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D), mitochondrial cardiomyopathy] or genetic and acquired [dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM)] etiology. Modern genomics has identified mutations that are common in these populations, while in vitro and in vivo experimentation with these mutations have provided invaluable insight int

BACKGROUND: Conventional mechanical circulatory support offers limited options for patients with small or restrictive left ventricles. Left atrial inflow (LA-Ao) ventricular assist device (VAD) configuration represents an alternative to conventional apical left ventricular assist device (LVAD). However, outcomes data remain limited. To address this, we evaluated patient characteristics, procedural details, and outcomes of LA-Ao VAD configuration in this population.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted to identify case reports and series of patients with small or restrictive left ventric

Cardiomyopathy is defined as structural and functional myocardial abnormality not attributed to ischemic, valvular, hypertensive, or congenital cardiac causes. The main phenotypes of cardiomyopathy include hypertrophic, dilated, non-dilated left ventricular, restrictive, arrhythmogenic right ventricular, Takotsubo, and left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathies. A significant proportion of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) cases represents patients with genetic mutations, most commonly titin gene truncating variants (TTNtv). It has been shown that TTNtv mutation contributes to the development

The current study reports the first family with confirmed myofibrillar myopathy MFM in the Middle East and the third family worldwide. This study highlights the importance of considering MFM in young patients presenting with idiopathic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia or atrioventricular block in the Gulf states. This is the first report that presented 2 different types of cardiomyopathy and 2 different indications of permanent pacemaker placement in the same generation of a family with MFM. This report studies a Qatari family consisting of one brother and 3 sisters. The brother had restrictive card

Cardiac amyloidosis is an infiltrative cardiomyopathy with a grave prognosis. Its clinical manifestations include restrictive cardiomyopathy, diastolic heart failure, conduction defects, and arrhythmias. Isolated cardiac involvement and significant conduction disturbances are reported very infrequently. We report a rare case of isolated cardiac involvement in primary amyloidosis, in a 76-year-old man who initially presented with sick sinus syndrome that necessitated permanent pacemaker insertion. Subsequent symptoms of heart failure led to additional evaluation, including an endomyocardial bio
