A 45-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of upper abdominal pain. Seven months earlier a laparoscopic cholecystectomy had been carried out and a solitary gallstone removed together with the gallbladder. The patient now suffered from pain of the same character but lower intensity compared to the situation before the operation. BACKGROUND: This prospective study determines the value of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) in patients with cholelithiasis after bariatric surgery.
METHODS: Eighty-four consecutive patients who underwent bariatric surgery without concomitant cholecystectomy were studied. Patients were divided in two groups; group A including 50 patients (59.5%) without gallbladder disease, and group B included 34 patients (40.5%) with symptomatic cholelithiasis within 2 years postoperatively. Asymptomatic gallstones are defined as stones that have not caused biliary colics or other biliary symptoms. Some cross-sectional epidemiological screening studies have shown that as many as 66% to 77% of patients with gallstones are asymptomatic. BACKGROUND: External biliary fistula (EBF) following bile duct injury is a serious complication of cholecystectomy.
METHODS: From January 1989 to December 1994, 37 patients with post-cholecystectomy external biliary fistula were seen at this centre. There were 14 partial, 22 complete and one sub-vesical duct of Luschka injury. Congenital duplication of a gallbladder is a rare anatomic malformation. This malformation is rarely diagnosed preoperatively and usually is discovered during the course of cholecystectomy. Whether discovered preoperatively or intraoperatively, biliary anatomy should be assessed, then cholecystectomy should be performed on both gallbladders. Reported is a case of a duplicate gallbladder managed by performance of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Thirty-five patients with acute cholecystitis were operated on in a period of 17 months at Bayindir Medical Center. Although torsion of the gallbladder is most commonly a disease of the elderly, an 18-year-old woman presented with this condition. This is the first reported case of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallbladder torsion. Signs and symptoms of gallbladder volvulus are often subtle. Radiologic evaluation may be normal. A high index of suspicion is necessary to make the preoperative diagnosis. If treated laparoscopically, gallbladder decompression and detorsion prior to cholecystectomy are helpful techniques to avoid bile duct injury. A literature review of this uncommon problem is provided.
