We report a novel method of rescuing empty follicle syndrome (EFS) and provide evidence that it is a drug-related problem rather than a clinical dysfunction. We report a case of early abdominal pregnancy (6 weeks amenorrhea). The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy was suspected according to the usual clinical, serologic, and sonographic procedure. It was confirmed by laparoscopy. Laparoscopic surgery was unable to assess the trophoblastic site and the hemostasis of the lesion that was histologically proven.

MR images of pineal region tumors were analyzed in 26 patients with histologically proved tumors: seven germ-cell tumors, six astrocytomas, five teratomas, three pineoblastomas, two meningiomas, one dermoid, one epidermoid, and one metastasis. In an attempt to identify specific MR characteristics of these lesions, Gd-DTPA was administered to six patients. CSF and blood serum were assayed for alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and human chorionic gonadotropin-beta subunit (HCG-beta) in 18 patients. MR findings were correlated with age, sex, the presence of biochemical tumor markers, and surgical outcome.

We report an extremely rare case of intramural pregnancy with negative maternal b-HCG value. The patient underwent a "myomectomy" but the pathology examination revealed chorionic villi consistent with ectopic pregnancy. Diagnosis is very difficult in cases with menorrhagia and especially when pregnancy is not suspected.

AIM: Methotrexate (MTX) is an efficient treatment for ectopic pregnancy, used according to 'single-dose' protocol. Treatment success is evaluated on days 4 and 7 after dose administration, and defined as a decline of ≥15% in beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) levels, with a positive predictive value of 93%. A decrease on day 4 β-hCG levels was determined to be a good predictor for treatment success. We retrospectively examined changes in β-hCG levels between days 0 and 4 after MTX treatment as an early predictor for treatment outcome.
