Weber-Christian disease with benign cytophagic histiocytes in the skin lesion.

We describe an 8 year old female with Weber-Christian disease who manifested erythema on her legs and an intermittent high fever. A wedge skin biopsy revealed lobular panniculitis and bean-bag cells, which were characteristic to cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis (CHP). However, she showed no evidence of liver dysfunction, hyperlipidemia, or coagulation disorders usually seen in CHP. Moreover, she responded well to oral corticosteroids therapy with resultant advanced subcutaneous fat atrophy.

A case of metastatic carcinoma from Christian Sayala (Egyptian Nubia).

The paper deals with a case of a most probable metastatic carcinoma, found in skeletal remains of a 35-45 year old female who lived in Sayala, Egyptian Nubia, during the Christian Period. The macroscopic and radiographic morphology supported by microscopic investigation by M. Schultz (Göttingen) revealed the predominating osteoclastic process in the lesions, combining with the slightly expressed osteoblastic component. Single lesions located in the skull, spine, sacrum, sternum, ribs, clavicle, scapula, radius, metacarpals and hand phalanges, ossa coxae, femur and tibia were described. Of the

Weber-Christian disease associated with multiple perforations of the ileum and colon.

Panperitonitis developed in a 57-yr-old Japanese man during the course of Weber-Christian disease (WCD). Emergent operation disclosed three perforations of the ascending colon and two of the distal ileum. Histological study of the surgical specimen showed that all perforations were located at the centers of acute subserosal panniculitic foci. No vasculitis was discerned. In the previously reported three cases of WCD with intestinal perforation, perforation was solitary and seen in the small intestine. The cause of perforation was considered to be vasculitis in two cases. In the remaining one,

[Hand-Schüller-Christian disease with tumor localization in the posterior fossa].

A 19-year-old girl had been suffering since the age of 4 from Hand-Schüller-Christian disease. The condition was diagnosed by biopsy of a cranial bone lacuna. Later on, she developed diabetes insipidus and bilateral exophthalmos, both being typical signs of Hand-Schüller-Christian disease. At the age of 14, an intracranial tumour in the posterior cerebral fossa was discovered by computerized tomography, but in view of her parent's refusal of surgery, she was operated upon only 4 years later for obstructive hydrocephalus with intracranial hypertension. Two years after this operation, she presen

[Hand-Schüller-Christian syndrome arising in the mandible. A case report].

The history of Letterer-Siwe, Hand-Schüller-Christian disease, and eosinophilic granuloma of the bone, and the evolution of the concept of grouping them together under the common term of histiocytosis X are presented. The characteristics of the disease, with particular emphasis on oral manifestations, are reviewed. The therapy for the disease is briefly outlined. One case of Hand-Schüller-Christian syndrome is presented. The discussion is focused on the problem of chemotherapy in disseminated forms.

[A case of long-standing Weber-Christian panniculltis with visceral sites].

A summary review of the relevant literature is followed by the presentation of a case of recurrent, febrile Weber-Christian-type nodular panniculitis with an unusual course. The patient, a young woman, presented not only the typical subcutaneous lesions and constant hyperpyrexia but also visceral signs resulting in frequent and sometimes considerable haematuria and intestinal haemorrhage. The skin and visceral signs had tended to alternate and had run without remission for over 10 years. Every form of treatment attempted had been found ineffective.
