Intraperitoneal migration of an abdominally implanted cardioverter defibrillator is a complication not yet fully described. In a consecutive series of 195 patients, migration occurred between 1 and 20 months in 5 (8%) of the 63 patients in whom a subrectus abdomini placement of the generator was chosen. Between July 1973 and December 1992, 5156 men underwent either TURP (n = 4259) or open prostatectomy (n = 897) because of infravesical obstruction supposedly due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In this retrospective study, 86 men in whom an incidental carcinoma of the prostate had been found were followed up. Twenty-three patients with resistant psoriasis vulgaris were evaluated clinically and histologically before and after treatment with potent topically administered steroids. It was shown that psoriatic plaques are comprised of clinically and histologically distinct acute and chronic areas, each responding differently to treatment. Chronic areas, characterized by chronic inflammation, respond well to therapy; acute areas, characterized by acute inflammation, are resistant to therapy.
