College students are at risk for mental health concerns and hazardous alcohol use, yet few access services. We examined perceived barriers to and benefits of mental health services utilization (MHSU) among college students with and without symptoms of depression, anxiety, and/or hazardous alcohol use. Second-year students (n=756; 63.4% female, 76.3% White non-Hispanic) were asked about depression, anxiety, alcohol use, and perceived barriers to and benefits of MHSU. As part of an 1988-89 evaluation of New Jersey's newly established HIV Notification Assistance Program (NAP), data were collected concerning number of HIV+ persons providing contact names; contact characteristics; reactions to NAP of HIV counselors, their clients, and of notified contacts; and program costs. There was initial resistance to the program both from HIV counselors and their clients. By mid-1989, acceptance of the program by referring HIV counselors had increased. Close to 69,000 humans die of rabies each year, most of them in Africa and Asia. Clinical rabies can be prevented by post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). However, PEP is commonly not available or not affordable in developing countries. Another strategy besides treating exposed humans is the vaccination of vector species. BACKGROUND: Rising prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), has increased demand for developmental paediatric services. Ongoing medication review requirements place increasing pressure on paediatrician-led models. Pharmacist-led shared care may improve capacity and access; however, evidence in paediatric outpatient settings remains limited.

The global impact of life-saving medical devices is directly related to their availability. Access may be limited by cost, availability, or lack of information regarding effectiveness and safety. Addressing the inequity in access requires concerted effort from device developers, the research community, global agencies and professional organisations. We discuss, with examples, three strategies to promote equity: low-cost, purpose-built innovation, improvisation and off-label use. First, developing simple, safe and low-cost innovative devices can be an effective way of increasing global access.

Road traffic injuries cause considerable financial strain on health care systems worldwide. We retrospectively analyzed injury-related costs of 252 severely injured (New Injury Severity Score, NISS ≥ 16) patients treated at Tampere University Hospital (TAUH) between 2013 and 2017, with 2-year follow-up.
