Rehabilitation of a cystic mixed dentition mandible following marsupialization with a multipurpose acrylic splint acting as a space maintainer and an obturator.

Radicular cysts are the most common odontogenic cystic lesions of inflammatory origin which can be managed by marsupialisation specially if the cyst is large and is in relation to the vital structures. This article presents a case in which a radicular cyst was present in association with grossly carious deciduous molars and has been treated by marsupialisation. Postoperatively a surgical splint was inserted to maintain the patency of the bone cavity. This obturator splint also acts as a space maintainer to prevent space loss and ensure unimpeded eruption of permanent premolars.

Morphological changes in the attached and keratinized gingiva and gingival sulcus in the mixed dentition period. A 5-year longitudinal study.

A longitudinal study was undertaken to examine the changes in the sulcus probing depth, keratinized and attached gingiva during the mixed dentition period. 54 children aged 7 to 9 years at the first examination were examined twice, with an interval of 5 years. Sulcus probing depth and keratinized gingiva were examined at the buccal aspect of the incisors, and either right or left cuspids and posterior areas. The width of the attached gingiva was obtained by subtracting the probing depth from the width of the keratinized gingiva. When compared to primary predecessors, the permanent teeth had a

Artificial Intelligence-Aided Tooth Detection and Segmentation on Pediatric Panoramic Radiographs in Mixed Dentition Using a Transfer Learning Approach.

Background/Objectives: Accurate identification of deciduous and permanent teeth on panoramic radiographs (PRs) during mixed dentition is fundamental for early detection of eruption disturbances, yet relies heavily on clinician experience due to developmental variability. This study aimed to develop a deep learning model for automated tooth detection and segmentation in pediatric PRs during mixed dentition. Methods: A retrospective dataset of 250 panoramic radiographs from patients aged 6-13 years was analyzed. A customized YOLOv11-based model was developed using a novel hybrid pre-annotation s

Management Modalities of Mandible Fracture and Dental Trauma in Pediatric Patients During Mixed Dentition Phase: A Series of Case Study.

The prevalence of oromaxillofacial fracture in pediatric patients is comparatively less than in adults, which could be due to several inconclusive factors, such as infrequent exposure to high-contact sports games, rash driving of vehicles and motorbikes, alcohol consumption, and fist fights for personal reasons under the influence of alcohol. More importantly, most of the time, children are under the care of their parents till they reach an age of maturity. One more thing that everyone believes even today is the elasticity nature of their bones as well as their body weight during their growing

Intercanine widening and sagittal effect of maxillary transverse expansion in patients with cleft lip and palate during the deciduous and mixed dentitions.

Since 1977 cleft lip and palate (CLP) patients with maxillary deficiency have received an interceptive orthopedic treatment consisting of (a) transverse expansion, (b) protraction, and (c) fixed retention. Ideally the treatment should be completed early enough to permit spontaneous eruption of the maxillary permanent incisors into normal occlusion without orthodontic intervention. The early transverse expansion considerably increases space so that unerupted malpositioned incisors spread out spontaneously, creating optimal conditions for eruption and root formation. Dental diagnosis in the clef
