OBJECTIVE: To characterize the clinical features of patients with cardiac amyloidosis (CA).
METHODS: Totally 42 patients with CA admitted to Guangdong General Hospital since 2008 were included and retrospectively analyzed in the present study. Congenital diverticulum of heart is a rare entity, which may arise from the atria, atrial appendages, coronary sinus or the ventricles. A 3-year-old child presented with history of early fatigability for 6 months and recent upper respiratory tract infection. Chest X-ray and echocardiogram revealed marked right atrial enlargement. At surgery, a right atrial diverticulum was excised under cardiopulmonary bypass. Pathology revealed thickened endocardium with edema and myocardial fiber hypertrophy. Our experience with this rare congenital disease is presented along with a review of the literature.

We present a case of right-sided endocarditis as a life-threatening complication of having a jugular vein haemodialysis catheter inadvertently placed in the right atrium. The mechanisms of direct traumatization of the endocardium by the catheter tip and continuous inoculation of bacteria onto the endocardial surface make dual lumen catheter-induced endocarditis similar to the pathophysiology of experimental endocarditis in animals. We report an association between idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome and obstruction of the hepatic veins (Budd-Chiari syndrome). Budd-Chiari syndrome was assessed by liver biopsy and hepatic phlebography and documented by computed tomography.
