Intraventricular silicone oil migration post-retinal detachment surgery: diagnostic features and classification - a case study with literature review.

This case report documents a rare instance of intraventricular migration of silicone oil (IVM-SiO), initially misinterpreted as intraventricular hemorrhage on computed tomography (CT), in a patient with a history of retinal detachment surgery. The report not only describes the unique presentation of this case but also synthesizes findings from previous case reports to summarize the diagnostic characteristics and classification of intracranial silicone oil migration. The patient, a 41-year-old male, presented with dizziness and a history of vitreoretinal surgeries, including silicone oil tampon

Perfluorocarbon liquid-assisted subretinal fluid drainage via the choroid as a treatment for bullous central serous chorioretinopathy in a nanophthalmic eye.

PURPOSE: The report presents a modified surgical technique wherein the perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL)-assisted drainage of subretinal fluid (SRF) through the choroid was combined with partial-thickness sclerectomy (PTS) and punch sclerostomy as a treatment for bullous central serous chorioretinopathy (bCSCR) in a nanophthalmic eye. METHODS: The developed surgical approach is herein discussed together with a corresponding surgical video. Briefly, two 5 × 4 mm half-thickness sclerectomies and a punch sclerostomy (diameter: 2 mm) to the choroid were performed in the inferior quadrants. Following

Failed Pneumatic Retinopexy for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Repair in Ocular Albinism: Clues to the Role of Melanin in Retinal Pigment Epithelium Pump Function.

The authors report the first case, to their knowledge, of failed pneumatic retinopexy (PR) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair in a patient with ocular albinism (OA). The failure of PR to spontaneously resolve the subretinal fluid and reattach the retina in this case is suggestive of a deficiency in subretinal fluid reabsorption by the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). These findings suggest that in cases of RRD in OA, primary PR should be avoided since this procedure relies on an adequately functioning RPE pump to reabsorb subretinal fluid prior to laser retinopexy. The use of

Delayed-onset descemet membrane detachment after uneventful cataract surgery treated by corneal venting incision with air tamponade: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Descemet membrane detachment (DMD) is a significant complication noted during or early after cataract surgery. Review of literature revealed a few cases of delayed-onset DMD with presentation ranging from weeks to months after cataract surgery but most of them were treated with pneumatic descemetopexy and a few ended in penetrating keratoplasty. We report this case, to highlight the usefulness of corneal venting incision with air tamponade in late-onset DMD cases not responding to pneumatic descemetopexy. CASE PRESENTATION: A retrospective case review of a 66 year old male who pre

[Morphogenesis of complications after long-term intraocular silicon oil filling (clinical histopathological study)].

The question of necessity and time of silicon oil (SO) removal after tamponade for traumatic retinal detachment (TRD) is still controversial. So the study of changes in the eye filled with SO for a long time is of great interest. Histopathologic analysis of 9 enucleated eyes filled with SO for TRD during long-time period (from 6 months till 30 years) was performed. The characteristic change was inflammatory reaction with fibrin membranes surrounding silicon drops and development of proliferative vitreoretinopathy and tractional retinal detachment in the following. In 2 cases the inflammatory p
