Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP) is an uncommon disease in children and adolescents. The association between PHP and slipped capital femoral epiphysis is rare, and so far only four cases have been reported in the literature. Herein, we report a case of PHP due to a parathyroid adenoma, with several painful skeletal deformities and associated with slipped capital femoral epiphysis in an 18-year-old male patient. Laboratory evaluation showed: calcium of 13.6 mg/dL, parathyroid hormone of 1,524 pg/mL and alkaline phosphatase of 3,449 U/L. Deformities were caused by late diagnosis during the grow

The aim of the study was to analyze the natural history of the "Работает" hip joints in patients with primary unilateral slipped capital femoral epiphysis (s.c.f.e.). The material consisted of 128 patients operated because of s.c.f.e. in the Institute of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Medical Sciences of Poznań in 1968-1991. There were 84 boys (66%) and 44 girls (34%) at mean age of 12.8 years. The retrospective analysis showed that the percentage of bilateral s.c.f.e. diagnosed primary at the onset of the disease increased significantly in the long-term follow-up. There w

We report on a 13-year-old boy who had a slipped capital femoral epiphysis and was found to have type II benign autosomal dominant osteopetrosis. This association has not previously been reported.

Valgus slip of the capital femoral epiphysis, a rare entity which may be acute or chronic, occurred in a 12-year-old boy. The displacement may be associated with a pre-existing coxa valga. The patient also had a varus slip of the capital femoral epiphysis on the contralateral side. Both hips were successful treated by in situ pinning. A review of the English literature reveals only 8 previously reported cases of valgus slipping of the capital femoral epiphysis. Either valgus or lateral slips are unusual.

During this retrospective investigation, use of freeze-dried irradiated allograft for achieving epiphysiodesis in patients with Grade I or Grade II slipped capital femoral epiphyses was evaluated. The study reviewed 40 grafting procedures in 33 patients: 20 patients were boys and 13 were girls, whose average age was 13 years old. The group included 31 Grade I slips and 9 Grade II slips. Six were unstable and 34 were stable. Procedure time averaged 1 hour 57 minutes and blood loss averaged 360 ml. The average time to complete physeal closure was 28 weeks. An incomplete bony physeal bridge, appa

BACKGROUND: It has already been shown in animals and using anatomical human specimens that chronic slippage of the adolescent upper (capital) femoral epiphysis is unlikely to take place by shearing due to the presence of an epiphyseal tubercle projecting down into the metaphysis.
MATERIAL, RESULTS, AND INTERPRETATION: Plain radiographs of 20 adolescents and CT scans of 9 of them were analyzed for evidence of the size and presence of this tubercle in vivo. These cases showed that CT scanography is the investigation of choice to illustrate this largely undescribed anatomical feature. They also
