Idiopathic bilateral massive perirenal subcapsular effusion: The first case in the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Bilateral perirenal subcapsular effusion is a rare clinical condition and is associated with several underlying etiologies. We present a 33 years old male patient with idiopathic bilateral massive subcapsular effusion. CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old male patient presented to our outpatient clinic with bilateral flank pain and fever for 2 weeks. Bilateral perirenal subcapsular effusion was detected in intravenous contrast-enhanced CT and dynamic MRI. TREATMENT: Bilateral ultrasound-guided percutaneous drainage was performed by an expert uroradiologist to reduce the parenchymal

Anatomy and pathophysiology of the pleura and pleural space.

Pleural effusions are most often secondary to an underlying condition and may be the first sign of the underlying pathologic condition. The balance between the hydrostatic and oncotic forces dictates pleural fluid homeostasis. The parietal pleura has a more significant role in pleural fluid homeostasis. Its vessels are closer to the pleural space compared with its visceral counterpart; it contains lymphatic stomata, absent on visceral pleura, which are responsible for a bulk clearance of fluid. The diagnosis and successful treatment of pleural effusions requires a mixture of imaging techniques

Uveal effusion associated with an IgM lambda subtype monoclonal gammopathy.

CASE REPORT: A 68-year-old man was referred to the hospital with progressive decreased vision in the right eye over the past year. A moderate cataract and annular choroidal thickening were found. The diagnosis of uveal effusion was confirmed by ultrasound and fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography. Laboratory studies showed an IgM lambda subtype monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance. The patient underwent cataract surgery, and a sub-Tenon's triamcinolone injection with a satisfactory short-term outcome. CONCLUSION: This association has not been previously reported, and it

[Pleural lymphatics and effusions].

The pleural lymphatic system has a great absorption capacity. Its most known function is fluid resorption. The pleura which cover the lungs (visceral pleura), the mediastinum, diaphragm and thoracic wall (parietal pleura) are formed by a mesothelial cell layer (mesothelium). This permeable layer is in direct contact with the vascular endothelium. The mesothelium is based over a connective tissue (interstitium) containing the blood and lymphatic vessels. The primary lymphatic vessels drain interstitium but are also in direct contact with pleural space by the stoma or openings, situated in the l

Adoptive transfer of immunity with peritoneal exudate cells to the cestode Hymenolepis nana.

Under certain conditions, peritoneal exudate cells (PEC) removed from Hymenolepis nana-eggs infected mice, transferred to normal recipients severely inhibited the establishment of worms from a challenge infection, as expected in an immune state. A close relationship was observed between numbers of challenge worms and immune response. A significant effect was clearly demonstrable when the highest dose of eggs (150) was used, but the effect was less and not significant different when a smaller doses (30) was administered.

Choroidal Changes in Eyes With Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy After Anti-VEGF Therapy Imaged With Swept-Source OCT Angiography.

PURPOSE: Swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography was used to investigate choroidal changes and their association with pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs) in eyes with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) after treatment with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors. METHODS: Patients with treatment-naïve PCV were included and underwent anti-VEGF therapy. Mean choroidal thickness (MCT), choroidal vascularity index (CVI), and PED volume measurements were obtained before and after treatment. RESULTS: Thirty-four treatment-naïve PCV eyes from 33 patients were inclu
