Some current aspects of environmental fluoride.

This review presents a Total Environment evaluation of current inorganic fluoride intake by human populations. Inorganic fluoride is a persistant bioaccumulator, and the ever-increasing use (and release) of fluoride compounds in the environment should be of long-term concern in population sub-groups who are most susceptible, and therefore, most "at risk". One of these sub-groups consists of people with impaired kidney function, including subjects with nephorphatic diabetes. The diabetes factor is of particular relevance, not only because the incidence of diabetes has increased by 6%/yr during

Comparative Evaluation of the Remineralizing Potential of Fluoridated and Non-fluoridated Agents on Demineralized Primary Tooth Enamel: An In Vitro Study.

INTRODUCTION: Dental caries remains a highly prevalent condition in children, with primary teeth being particularly susceptible due to their lower mineral content and structural characteristics. Early intervention using remineralizing agents can reverse enamel demineralization and prevent disease progression. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the remineralizing efficacy of various fluoridated and non-fluoridated agents on the surface microhardness (SMH) of demineralized primary tooth enamel. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This in vitro experimental study was conducted on 50 extracted,

The differences of enamel hardness post application of silver diamine fluoride and fluoride varnish on demineralized tooth surface (in vitro).

This research aimed to determine the difference in enamel hardness after the application of silver diamine fluoride and fluoride varnish on the surface of demineralized tooth. An in vitro true experimental research was conducted by collecting 27 maxillary premolars, which were separated into crowns and roots and divided into three groups (control, silver diamine fluoride, fluoride varnish). Demineralization was performed on all groups. Silver diamine fluoride remineralizing agent and fluoride varnish were applied for 3 min to the tooth enamel surface before the specimens were immersed in artif

Effect of Fluoridated and Non-fluoridated Mouthwash on Tooth Movement and Surface Topography Changes of Arch Wires: An In Vivo Study.

AIM: The study aims to evaluate the effect of fluoridated and non-fluoridated mouthwash on the rate of tooth movement and surface topography changes of nickel-titanium (NiTi) and multistranded stainless steel arch wires. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients aged 18-30 years with moderate mandibular anterior crowding [Little's Irregularity Index (LII): 4-6 mm] were selected and randomly divided into two groups (n = 10) and were assigned by archwire type: Group I (NiTi) and group II (multistranded SS). Each group was subdivided into fluoridated (Colgate MaxFresh Mouthwash; groups IA and IIA)

Comparison of the effects of fluoride varnish containing silver nanoparticles and conventional fluoride varnish on the surface microhardness of tooth enamel.

BACKGROUND: Nano-silver fluoride (NSF) has been introduced to improve enamel lesions. The effective use of varnishes is important in the prevention of dental caries. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to compare the effect of conventional sodium fluoride varnish with the same varnish containing 1% and 2% silver nanoparticles (AgNP) on the surface microhardness of enamel. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The baseline surface microhardness of 40 premolar teeth was measured using a Vickers microhardness tester. After immersing the samples in a demineralizing agent for 24 h, the microhardness was measured again.

Effectiveness of nanosilver fluoride and silver diamine fluoride in arresting early childhood caries: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: One of the most prevalent health problems affecting children worldwide is untreated caries in primary teeth. Agents to arrest caries are used to manage untreated decay in children in disadvantaged communities. Nano Silver Fluoride (NSF) overcomes the staining problems of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF). This study compared the clinical cariostatic effect of NSF to 38% SDF for arresting caries lesions. METHODS: The study included 360 children younger than 4 years, with at least one active lesion, ICDAS score ≥ 3, recruited from nurseries in a rural area in Alexandria, Egypt, in 2022.

In-Flow Generation of Thionyl Fluoride (SOF2) Enables the Rapid and Efficient Synthesis of Acyl Fluorides from Carboxylic Acids.

Herein, we report an approach for generating thionyl fluoride (SOF2) from the commodity chemicals thionyl chloride (SOCl2) and potassium fluoride (KF). The methodology relies on a microfluidic device that can efficiently produce and dose this toxic gaseous reagent under extremely mild and safe conditions. Subsequently, the in situ-generated thionyl fluoride is reacted with an array of structurally and electronically differing carboxylic acids, leading to the direct and efficient synthesis of highly sought-after acyl fluorides. Importantly, our investigation also highlights the inherent modular

Long-term exposure to the fluoride blocks the development of chondrocytes in the ducks: The molecular mechanism of fluoride regulating autophagy and apoptosis.

Long-term exposure to excessive fluoride causes chronic damage in the body tissues and could lead to skeletal and dental fluorosis. Cartilage damage caused by excessive fluoride intake has gained wide attention, but how fluoride accumulation blocks the development of chondrocytes is still unclear. Here, we report a negative correlation between the length and growth plate width after NaF treatments via apoptosis and autophagy, with shrinkage of cells, nuclear retraction, dissolution of chondrocytes. Whereas, fluoride exposure had no significant effect on the number and distribution of the osteo
