[Hookworm-related folliculitis in a woman performing skin bleaching in Benin].

Hookworm-related cutaneous larva migrans is caused by the subcutaneous migration of hookworm larvae. The characteristic sign is a serpiginous cutaneous track. Folliculitis is an uncommon clinical manifestation. We report a case of hookworm-related folliculitis in a woman performing skin bleaching. A 33-year-old woman presented with a widespread cutaneous eruption made of erythematous and itchy follicular papulo-nodules, with erythematous serpiginous tracks, about 5-10cm long and numerous streaks of scratching, located on the limbs, buttocks and trunk. The cutaneous lesions occurred two days af…

Aeromonas as a Cause of Purulent Folliculitis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Aeromonas species are rarely an identified cause of folliculitis. Here, we describe the case of a patient who had purulent folliculitis of the breast caused by an Aeromonas species and review 4 other cases presented in the literature, highlighting the commonalities observed. Aeromonas infection should be considered in patients who present with purulent folliculitis, particularly those with exposure to nonchlorinated pools or baths.

Impact of Folliculitis Decalvans on Quality of Life and Subjective Perception of Disease.

Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is a primary neutrophilic scarring alopecia characterized by perifollicular papules, crusts, and pustules frequently located on the vertex. FD may affect young men and women. Since it may lead to hair loss, it can have a negative impact on patients' quality of life. Nevertheless, studies have focused on clinical, prognostic, and therapeutic aspects without considering the psychological impact of FD. In our study, we found that FD patients experienced a considerable impact on their quality of life. Interestingly, almost half of the patients considered that their alop…

Folliculitis keloidalis nuchae is associated with the risk for bleeding from haircuts.

BACKGROUND: Folliculitis keloidalis nuchae (FKN), characterized by nucheal pimples and keloids, has a predilection for curly African hair. The disease is 10 times more common in males than females. The aim of this study was to investigate determinants of FKN in males. METHODS: Factors associated with the presence of FKN were investigated from two cross-sectional studies involving 1042 children and 874 adults, respectively. All participants had given informed consent. A clinical diagnosis of FKN was made only if nucheal keloidal papules (or plaques) were present. Multiple logistic regression w…

Cytologic findings in Demodex folliculitis: a case report and review of the literature.

Infectious folliculitis of the head and neck has various etiologies, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Accurate morphologic recognition of microorganisms in biopsy and cytologic specimens is paramount in facilitating appropriate therapy. We report a case of a 37-yr-old white male with Demodex folliculitis, who presented with an extensive and painful erythematous pustular skin lesion along the right face and scalp in a dermatome pattern clinically suggestive of Varicella zoster. Examination of scraped smears obtained from one of these pustules revealed numerous parasitic organi…

Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis in infancy: not a distinctive inflammatory disease of the skin.

In the standard literature of dermatology and dermatopathology "eosinophilic pustular folliculitis in infancy" is presented as a distinctive inflammatory disease of the skin, to wit, a variant of "Ofuji's eosinophilic folliculitis". Assessment critically of the first publication devoted to the subject revealed a potpourri of findings clinical and histopathologic, with no clear criteria being set forth by the authors to enable diagnosis, with precision. Our review of all articles dedicated to the matter of "eosinophilic pustular folliculitis in infancy" shows that criteria for diagnosis are fou…

[Unspecified peripheral T cell lymphoma with distinct lymphoid follicules].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the morphological features and immunophenotype of unspecified peripheral T cell lymphoma with distinct lymphoid follicular growth pattern. METHODS: Three cases of peripheral T cell lymphoma with special pathohistological features were collected. Morphologic analysis and immunohistochemical staining for CD3, CD45RO, CD43, CD20, CD79a, cyclinD1, bcl-2, CD4, CD8 and S-100 were performed. PCR was used to study TCR gamma gene rearrangements. RESULTS: The main symptoms of all the three patients with the primary sites of cervix and lower jaw. There were intermittent fever

Failure to detect clonality in eosinophilic pustular folliculitis with follicular mucinosis.

Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis is characterized by an eosinophil-rich inflammatory follicular and perifollicular infiltrate primarily centred at the level of the follicular isthmus and sebaceous duct. Follicular mucinosis has been observed in lesions of eosinophilic pustular folliculitis. Clinical and histological features of eosinophilic pustular folliculitis with follicular mucinosis and alopecia mucinosa are very similar. Alopecia mucinosa may be a clonal T-cell dermatosis. A monoclonal re-arrangement of the T-cell receptor gene was detected in about half of the cases in alopecia mucino…

Tufted hair folliculitis developing in a recalcitrant lesion of pemphigus vulgaris.

We describe tufted hair folliculitis that developed in a chronically erosive plaque on the scalp of a Japanese man patient with pemphigus vulgaris. After repeated intralesional corticosteroid injections, the erosive lesion improved, leaving multiple hairs emerging from single follicular openings. The current case suggests that localized exudative inflammatory lesions in the scalp regardless of cause can result in tufted hair formation.

Oil folliculitis. A study of 200 men employed in an engineering factory.

Occupational skin disease is a problem of major importance in the engineering industry. Little is known about the occupational distribution of oil folliculitis and its varying degrees of severity. This investigation was undertaken in an attempt to discover which occupations are at risk and why. The study was conducted at an engineering factory where 200 men, whose daily work brought them in contact with mineral oils, petroleum products, or greases, were surveyed. The survey comprised a personal interview and clinical examination. The object was to determine the severity of the folliculitis and…

Eosinophilic Folliculitis Presenting as Persistent Pruritic Facial Papules: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Eosinophilic folliculitis is a rare inflammatory dermatosis characterized by recurrent pruritic follicular papules or pustules with eosinophil-predominant inflammation. Although classically associated with immunosuppression, it demonstrates a broad clinical spectrum and may present diagnostic challenges. We report a 50-year-old woman with a several-year history of recurrent, severely pruritic facial papules initially attributed to chronic spontaneous urticaria, mastocytosis, or an atypical presentation of papulopustular rosacea. Histopathologic interpretation was initially reported as being co…

Case Report: Facial Malassezia folliculitis following infliximab treatment in Crohn's disease.

Infliximab (IFX), a first-line treatment for moderate to severe Crohn's disease (CD), has immunomodulatory effects that increase the risk of opportunistic infections. Although IFX-associated invasive fungal infections have received widespread attention, IFX-associated superficial cutaneous fungal infections, such as Malassezia folliculitis (MF), have not been fully recognized. Herein, we present a case of a 19-year-old female patient with moderately active CD who rapidly developed facial erythema, inflammatory papules, and nodular lesions after treatment with IFX. Initially, she was diagnosed …
