PURPOSE: To report the outcome of a novel fixation technique using three high-strength sutures which is including articular buttress suture, cerclage suture, and tension band with off-loading triceps suture (triple suture fixation) in the treatment of displaced comminuted olecranon fracture with a stable ulnohumeral joint (Mayo type IIB). The rationale of using this technique is that the sutures have been used to stabilize multiple fracture fragments in all sides of the olecranon.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between July 2018 and July 2021, 10 patients (7 women, 3 men; mean age, 49.9 years; mean fo

OBJECTIVE: Traditionally, staged surgery has been preferred in the treatment of compound comminuted depressed fracture (FCCD) after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and involves the removal of primarily damaged bone and subsequent cranioplasty. The main reason for delayed cranioplasty was to reduce the risk of infection-related complications. Here, the author performed immediate reconstruction using a titanium mesh in consecutive patients with FCCD after TBI, reported the surgical results, and reviewed previous studies.
METHODS: Nineteen consecutive patients who underwent single-stage reconstruct

A fracture of the orbital floor as a result of nose blowing is rare and we know of only three reported cases. We present a 40-year-old man who required repair of a blowout fracture of the orbital floor as a result of vigorous nose blowing. Patients who present with acute periorbital emphysema after nose blowing require careful assessment with potential blowout fractures in mind.

Comminution of the dorsal metaphysis is a relatively common feature of distal radius fractures. However, its effects on the radiographic outcomes of these fractures are not entirely understood. One hundred and twenty-four conservatively managed distal radius fractures were analysed retrospectively to assess the effect of dorsal metaphyseal comminution on fracture stability, especially with respect to initial displacement (minimally displaced versus displaced) and age group. Seventy-seven fractures (62%) had radiographic evidence of dorsal comminution. The secondary displacement rate of these f

Midshaft clavicle fractures are one of the most common upper extremity fractures among adults. When displaced, open reduction and internal fixation may be indicated, most commonly performed using single or dual plating. Cerclage techniques can be used in addition to lag screws and plate fixation to better capture and reduce inferior and posterior fracture fragments that are typically difficult to capture using a lag screw technique. Although soft cerclage increases operative time and can pose a risk to neurovascular structures, better reduction of posterior and inferior fragments may promote h

Proximal phalanx (P1) fractures in horses are relatively common, and present significant treatment challenges, especially when the fractures are comminuted or infected. An innovative treatment approach includes attaching an external fixator to the third metacarpal bone (MC III), the healthy bone above fracture, to offload the injured P1 and protect it from load-bearing forces, particularly during post-surgical standing up. This study aims to develop the favourable mathematical and numerical models for screws configuration in this external fixator. Nine configurations (I-IX), varying in screw a

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Calcaneal fractures account for approximately 2 % of all fractures and are the most common tarsal fractures. The majority are caused by high-energy trauma, and 75 % of them are intra-articular fractures. Sustentaculum tali fracture often occurs concomitantly with severe calcaneal fractures. Isolated fractures of the sustentaculum tali are extremely uncommon, accounting for merely 1 % of calcaneal fractures. They are quite challenging to manage and there is no established surgical gold standard.

BACKGROUND: Previous observational studies and meta-analyses have recommended augmentation with a fibular allograft (FA) during the treatment of proximal humeral fractures with locking plates (LPs). However, to our knowledge, randomized controlled trials comparing open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with and without FA have not been performed to date.
METHODS: This was a randomized controlled trial in which adults with a medial column comminuted proximal humeral fracture were randomly allocated to undergo ORIF with an LP (the LP group) or with an LP augmented with an FA (the FA group)

BACKGROUND: Severely comminuted olecranon fractures are challenging injuries. Commonly used tension band wiring exerts excessive compressive forces causing olecranon shortening and joint incongruity. This study aimed to introduce the embedded rafting k-wire technique with the bridging technique for intermediate articular fragment fixation in comminuted olecranon fractures and evaluate its clinical and radiological outcomes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 34 patients with comminuted olecranon fractures were treated with rafting k-wire fixation combined with a locking plate. Time to union, t
