The two genes lacZ1 and lacZ2 from Klebsiella pneumoniae 285, encoding β-galactosidase isoenzymes II and III (KpBGase-II and -III), were each cloned downstream of a T7 promoter for expression in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3), and the resulting recombinant enzymes were characterized in detail. The purpose of this study was to identify the genotype of donkeys' echinococcosis in one of the Egyptian governorates. On post-mortem inspection taking place at the zoo of Beni-Suef, Egypt, a total number of 145 donkeys were examined for the presence of hydatid cysts. The effect of dibutyryladenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (dibutyryl cAMP) on the expression of glutathione S-transferase placental type (GST-P) was examined in rat glioma cell line using an immunohistochemical technique. A total of fifteen clinically and parasitologically proven adult cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis were studied for the demonstration of premalignant factor(s). PURPOSE OF REVIEW: In this review, we discuss the role of matrix metalloproteinases and the potential therapeutic inhibition of metalloproteinases in chronic rhinosinusitis. Metalloproteinases control tissue remodelling along with several other physiologic processes. Failures may cause extracellular matrix deposition and sustained inflammation, which are common features in chronic rhinosinusitis.
RECENT FINDINGS: Metalloproteinases are rarely studied in chronic rhinosinusitis. Upregulation of certain metalloproteinases (gelatinases, collagenases and matrilysin) is described in the literature.
