SGA-DT: An adaptive fusion framework for missing data imputation and interpretable healthcare classification.

Despite advances in machine learning and medical data processing, handling missing values remains a critical and complex challenge in healthcare analytics. Missing data, especially in non-class attributes can severely compromise model accuracy, clinical reliability, and interpretability. In sensitive domains such as healthcare, improper imputation may lead to biased outcomes or delayed interventions. To address this challenge, we propose SGA-DT, an adaptive and interpretable learning framework that combines the best features of genetically optimized support vector regression (SVR) with a decis

Utilization of Machine Learning in the Prediction, Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Management of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.

Chronic myeloid leukemia is a clonal hematologic disease characterized by the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome and the BCR::ABL1 fusion protein. Integrating different molecular, genetic, clinical, and laboratory data would improve the diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive sensitivity of chronic myeloid leukemia. However, without artificial intelligence support, managing such a vast volume of data would be impossible. Considering the advancements and growth in machine learning throughout the years, several models and algorithms have been proposed for the management of chronic myeloid le

Identifying haemochromatosis patients with C282Y homozygosity from inpatient electronic patient records in England using a novel algorithm: a retrospective observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Hereditary haemochromatosis (HH) is the most common genetic condition among populations of northern European ancestry, but it does not have a specific International Classification of Diseases 10th revision (ICD-10) diagnosis code. HH is commonly assigned the ICD-10 code E83.1 defined as 'disorders of iron metabolism'. However, the E83.1 diagnosis code is also applied to patients with transfusion-related iron overload and hyperferritinaemia from non-iron loading conditions. Venesection is the main treatment option for patients with HH and is assigned the Office of Population, Cens

Expanding access to hereditary cancer genetic testing: a quality improvement initiative of mainstreaming in a diverse urban gynecology clinic.

Most individuals with hereditary cancer syndromes remain undiagnosed and cannot benefit from cancer mitigation strategies. Mainstreaming, or the process of integrating genetic testing into routine care, can expand access, but implementation in primary care settings has proven challenging. In a quality improvement initiative, stakeholder feedback guided the development of care algorithms, patient/provider resources, and streamlined lab workflows for mainstreaming in an urban, diverse, Medicaid-predominant benign gynecology clinic. The mainstreaming initiative was launched in December 2024; over

Motion planning of cleaning robot based on 3D vision.

Aiming to address the current problems in the industrial cleaning field, including water waste, blind spots, and poor equipment compatibility, this study proposes a three-dimensional vision-based cleaning robot design. The proposed design is primarily developed for cleaning workpieces in the manufacturing of rail transit equipment. It integrates both high-flow, low-pressure cleaning and low-flow, high-pressure cleaning, using the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control technology to precisely adjust the cleaning pressure and water temperature, allowing robots to automatically adapt to t

Muscular MRI-based algorithm to differentiate inherited myopathies presenting with spinal rigidity.

OBJECTIVES: Inherited myopathies are major causes of muscle atrophy and are often characterized by rigid spine syndrome, a clinical feature designating patients with early spinal contractures. We aim to present a decision algorithm based on muscular whole body magnetic resonance imaging (mWB-MRI) as a unique tool to orientate the diagnosis of each inherited myopathy long before the genetically confirmed diagnosis. METHODS: This multicentre retrospective study enrolled 79 patients from referral centres in France, Brazil and Chile. The patients underwent 1.5-T or 3-T mWB-MRI. The protocol compr

Prediction of train wheel diameter based on Gaussian process regression optimized using a fast simulated annealing algorithm.

An algorithm to predict train wheel diameter based on Gaussian process regression (GPR) optimized using a fast simulated annealing algorithm (FSA-GPR) is proposed in this study to address the problem of dynamic decrease in wheel diameter with increase in mileage, which affects the measurement accuracy of train speed and location, as well as the hyper-parameter problem of the GPR in the traditional conjugate gradient algorithm. The algorithm proposed as well as other popular algorithms in the field, such as the traditional GPR algorithm, and GPR algorithms optimized using the artificial bee col

Automated detection of genetic relatedness from fundus photographs using Siamese Neural Networks.

Heritability of common eye diseases and ocular traits are relatively high. Here, we develop an automated algorithm to detect genetic relatedness from color fundus photographs (FPs). We estimated the degree of shared ancestry amongst individuals in the UK Biobank using KING software. A convolutional Siamese neural network-based algorithm was trained to output a measure of genetic relatedness using 7224 pairs (3612 related and 3612 unrelated) of FPs. The model achieved high performance for prediction of genetic relatedness; when computed Euclidean distances were used to determine probability of

Identification of Associations Between Peripheral Blood Gene Expression and Cerebrospinal Fluid Biomarkers in Alzheimer's Disease Using an Improved Joint Multi-Task Sparse Canonical Correlation Analysis Algorithm.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder, and early diagnosis is crucial for effective clinical intervention. Traditional diagnostic methods involve detecting living brain tissue across the blood-brain barrier, but these invasive procedures cause unavoidable damage to patients. Genetic biomarkers in peripheral blood may provide valuable insights into brain lesions, potentially offering a non-invasive method for early AD diagnosis. The aim of this study is to propose an improved joint multi-task sparse canonical correlation analysis (MTSCCA) algorithm to identify s

An efficient automated algorithm to detect ocular surface temperature on sequence of thermograms using snake and target tracing function.

Functional infrared (IR) imaging is widely adopted in medical field nowadays, with more emphasis on breast cancer and ocular abnormalities. In this article, an algorithm is presented to accurately locate the eye and cornea in ocular thermographic sequences, which were recorded utilizing functional infrared imaging. The localization is achieved by snake algorithm coupled with a newly proposed target tracing function. The target tracing function enables automated localization, allows the absence of any manual assistance before the algorithm runs. Genetic algorithm is used to perform the search f

Application of orthogonal sparse joint non-negative matrix factorization based on connectivity in Alzheimer's disease research.

Based on the mining of micro- and macro-relationships of genetic variation and brain imaging data, imaging genetics has been widely applied in the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, effective integration of prior knowledge remains a barrier to determining the biological mechanism of AD. This paper proposes a new connectivity-based orthogonal sparse joint non-negative matrix factorization (OSJNMF-C) method based on integrating the structural magnetic resonance image, single nucleotide polymorphism and gene expression data of AD patients; the correlation information, sparsenes

Cluster-Based Analysis of Retinitis Pigmentosa Modifiers Using Drosophila Eye Size and Gene Expression Data.

The goal of this research is to computationally identify candidate modifiers for retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a group of rare genetic disorders that trigger the cellular degeneration of retinal tissue. RP being subject to phenotypic variation complicates diagnosis and treatment of the disease. In a previous study, modifiers of RP were identified by an association between genetic variation in the DNA sequence and variation in eye size in a well-characterized Drosophila model of RP. This study will instead focus on RNA expression data to identify candidate modifier genes whose expression is correl

Bayesian Inferential Analysis of Genetic Risks Based on Family History.

Classical statistical analysis is a frequently employed methodology in numerous domains of genetic research. In recent times, however, there has been a notable increase in the interest accorded to the deployment of Bayesian statistics in the field of genetics, as it incorporates a priori hypotheses about genetic knowledge into the problem. The potential risk of developing a genetic disease is influenced by the patient's genetics, ethnicity, gender, age, and family history. The objective of this study is there[Formula: see text]fore to provide molecular pathologists working with genetic testing

Gene-based warfarin dosing compared with standard of care practices in an orthopedic surgery population: a prospective, parallel cohort study.

Warfarin remains a difficult drug to manage due to a narrow therapeutic range and wide interindividual variability in dose requirements. The relationship between warfarin sensitivity and CYP2C9 and VKORC1 variants is strong, and is the basis for several proposed dosing algorithms. Here a gene-based dosing algorithm was compared with standard of care dosing in patients receiving warfarin to prevent venous thromboembolism after joint replacement surgery. Participants (n = 229) were adults (> or =18 years) undergoing elective total hip or knee arthroplasty and receiving warfarin under the directi

A systems genetics approach provides a bridge from discovered genetic variants to biological pathways in rheumatoid arthritis.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have yielded novel genetic loci underlying common diseases. We propose a systems genetics approach to utilize these discoveries for better understanding of the genetic architecture of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Current evidence of genetic associations with RA was sought through PubMed and the NHGRI GWAS catalog. The associations of 15 single nucleotide polymorphisms and HLA-DRB1 alleles were confirmed in 1,287 cases and 1,500 controls of Japanese subjects. Among these, HLA-DRB1 alleles and eight SNPs showed significant associations and all but one of the
