Three new spirostan glycosides, dracochinosides A-C (1-3), and four known steroidal glycosides (4-7) were isolated from the aerial parts of Dracaena cochinchinensis (Lour.) S.C.Chen. Their chemical structures were determined by the IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D-, and 2D-NMR spectra. Compounds 1-3, 6 and 7 inhibited nitric oxide production in LPS activated RAW 264.7 cells with IC50 values ranging from 57.5 to 92.8 μM. INTRODUCTION: Cyanogenic glycosides (CNglcs) are bioactive plant products involving in plant defense against herbivores by virtue of their abilities to release toxic hydrogen cyanide (HCN). Aspergillus niger has been shown to be effective in producing β-glucosidase, which could degrade CNglcs. However, whether A. niger could remove CNglcs under ensiling conditions is still unknown.

A phytochemical investigation of the methanolic extract of aerial parts of the Acanthus ilicifolius led to the isolation of two new lignan glycosides, acaniliciosides A and B (1 and 2), together with ten known compounds (3-12). The flowers of Albizzia julibrissin are used as a sedative in oriental traditional medicine. The phytochemical study of this plant allowed the isolation of two flavonol glycosides, quercitrin (1) and isoquercitrin (2). The sedative activity of these compounds was evaluated, and both compounds 1 and 2 increased pentobarbital-induced sleeping time in dose-dependent manner in mice. These results support the use of the flowers of this plant as a sedative agent.

In a prospective study 45 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation were randomly assigned to one of three groups (of 15 patients each): group I received oral digoxin, three times 0.125 mg up to twice 0.25 mg daily; group II oral digoxin twice 0.125 mg and quinidine hydrogen sulphate 750-1000 mg daily; group III oral digoxin three times 0.125 mg and flecainide 200-300 mg daily.
