Age-related hair cell loss has been studied in squirrel monkeys using surface preparation of the organ of Corti. Increasing hair cell loss starting at the apex is seen as a function of age. This finding is discussed in the light of our studies in guinea pigs, chinchillas, and rabbits. Reviewed with other human and experimental data, it would appear that many species of animals have age-related histological damage similar to that seen in the human organ of Corti.

This prospective study (1977-1980) of cosmetic adverse reactions by eleven dermatologists identified 487 cases of cosmetic-induced dermatitis. Approximately half of the cases were covert in nature. The prevalence of head louse Pediculus capitis Deg. among inhabitants of the Niger Delta was investigated. 5.7% of 7,360 subjects harboured head lice. The infestation was highest among the 6-13 year age group (13.5%) and decreased progressively with increase in age of the subjects. Overall, more female subjects than male subjects harboured lice. The present study establishes the need for anti-louse campaign in the study area to reduce human sufferings caused by head louse particularly among children of primary and post-primary school age.

Daptomycin is a new anti-methicillin-resistant Staphylococccus aureus (MRSA) drug with unknown ototoxicity. The study was carried out to investigate external contamination of hair by blood in heroin-related post-mortem cases. Solutions were prepared containing 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 3.0μg/mL of 6-monoacetylmorphine (6-AM) only or morphine only in human blood.
