Engaging Rural Youth in Community Health Assessment: A Visioning Session Tool for Health Promotion Practice.

Community health assessments (CHAs) are a foundational component of public health planning and accreditation, yet youth are often underrepresented in these processes, particularly in rural communities. Excluding youth perspectives limits opportunities to understand community assets and needs that directly shape young people's health and well-being. This article describes a low-cost, practice-based visioning session tool developed by a local health department to engage rural youth in the CHA process as part of routine public health practice. The visioning session tool uses creative expression t

An observation of two NHS trusts' use of organisational wellbeing interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learnt.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers' (HW') mental health during pandemics may be challenged due to the demands of their professional work. There is a need for effective organisational wellbeing strategies so that HW' mental health is safeguarded. In this article, we sought to examine approaches to implementing wellbeing strategies in hospital trusts, which we hope will improve future workplace planning. METHODS: A pilot study comprising semi-structured interviews with five management staff in two NHS trusts (which employ approximately 5,000 staff each) in north-west England (NWE) were conducted to

School Nurses' Perceptions of Mental Health Responsibilities Within School Nursing Practice: A Q Methodology Study.

BACKGROUND: School nurses frequently encounter student mental health concerns, but little is known about how they prioritize mental health responsibilities relative to other nursing duties and local team structures. METHODS: This Q methodology study examined shared viewpoints about school nurse duties that most support positive student and school outcomes. Seventy nurses from six rural, high-poverty US school districts ranked 25 duties aligned with the National Association of School Nurses framework. Q sorts were analyzed using centroid extraction and Varimax rotation; post-sort comments info

Valuing experience factors in the provision of Chlamydia screening: an application to women attending the family planning clinic.

OBJECTIVE: To examine women's preferences for characteristics of chlamydia screening. Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common curable sexually transmitted disease. To design effective screening programs, it is important to fully capture the benefits of screening to patients. Thus, the value of experience factors must be considered alongside health outcomes. METHODS: A self-complete discrete choice experiment questionnaire was administered to women attending a family planning clinic. Chlamydia screening was described by five characteristics: location of screening; type of screening test; cost

A National Web-GIS Dashboard to Support African Swine Fever Surveillance in Domestic Pigs and Wild Boars in Italy.

African swine fever is a fatal disease that affects members of the Suidae family and also threatens human economic activity. Genotype II of the African swine fever virus was detected in the wild boar population in mainland Italy in 2022. Subsequently, the infection spread to domestic pig populations. To support the monitoring of the national surveillance plan and the implementation of control measures, a dedicated African Swine Fever Web-GIS dashboard (ASF Web-GIS dashboard) was developed by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise "G. Caporale" (IZSAM), in collabora

Regional planning for meaningful person-centred care in mental health: context is the signal not the noise.

Person-centred care is at the core of a value-based health system. Its transformative potential is to enable and support key policy, planning and service developments across the system even when these go against the self-interest of individual major players. It offers a potent test for decision makers at all levels. It demands responses that are multi-level, empirically grounded, expert-informed and data-driven that must converge on the singularity of individuals in the places that they live. This requires different approaches that recognise, respect and reconcile two necessary but constitutio

Assessing Progress Toward the Vision of a Comprehensive, Shared Electronic Care Plan: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Care plans are central to effective care delivery for people with multiple chronic conditions. But existing care plans-which typically are difficult to share across care settings and care team members-poorly serve people with multiple chronic conditions, who often receive care from numerous clinicians in multiple care settings. Comprehensive, shared electronic care (e-care) plans are dynamic electronic tools that facilitate care coordination and address the totality of health and social needs across care contexts. They have emerged as a potential way to improve care for individuals

Decisions and choices about fertility and family planning: Perspectives from husbands and wives in Sudan.

BACKGROUND: The use of family planning contraceptives is an essential feature of reproductive health and rights, and safeguards women's health. Sudan is among the countries with the lowest prevalence of family planning use in Africa. The social construction of gender norms related to preference for increased fertility and family planning decisions resides in the assumption that husbands play a limiting role in their wives' access to family planning use. This study aims to examine to what extent husbands' preference for increased fertility is reflected in their wives' contraceptive use and whet

The challenges of upskilling health care assistants in community nursing.

Community care is at the forefront of the National Health Service reforms. Role redistribution from registered nurses to health care assistants is growing. This paper examines the challenges of upskilling community health care assistants to undertake catheterisation for uncomplicated patients in the community. Social constructivist methods facilitated reflective practice. Challenges included fears around delegation, accountability and the responsibilities involved in supporting the development of health care assistants. Recommendations suggest that community health care assistants offer a valu

Relationship-Based Care for Newborns With Down Syndrome and Endocardial Cushion Defect.

Down syndrome with endocardial cushion defect is a challenging diagnosis for parents as well as members of the health care team. Utilizing a framework of relationship-based care, nurses are in a position to positively affect parents' experience by providing education, advocacy, and support from initial diagnosis through discharge. The plan of care is multidisciplinary and focuses on critical developmental needs, such as bonding and feeding. Because Down syndrome is associated with multiple anomalies, anticipatory guidance is needed to assist parents with establishing a health maintenance plan

Using RE-AIM metrics to evaluate diabetes self-management support interventions.

BACKGROUND: Current healthcare evidence relies on relatively narrow efficacy data to make decisions about program impact. This paper illustrates the application of impact indices derived from the RE-AIM (reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance) framework that takes a broader perspective and includes issues important to decision makers, such as reach, adoption, and cost. METHODS: Composite RE-AIM indices that summarize impact and cost efficiency at the individual participant and setting levels are used to compare two different diabetes self-management support approaches

Avoiding Crisis Conditions in the Healthcare Infrastructure: 2 Case Studies in Statewide Collaboration.

In fall 2020, COVID-19 infections accelerated across the United States. For many states, a surge in COVID-19 cases meant planning for the allocation of scarce resources. Crisis standards of care planning focuses on maintaining high-quality clinical care amid extreme operating conditions. One of the primary goals of crisis standards of care planning is to use all preventive measures available to avoid reaching crisis conditions and the complex triage decisionmaking involved therein. Strategies to stay out of crisis must respond to the actual experience of people on the frontlines, or the "groun
