[Mental Health of Women After Childbirth: Inpatient Family Rooms as a Resource? A Pilot Study].

Social support is a key factor in mental health. Obstetric wards can promote social support by providing family rooms. Family rooms are not yet universally accessible. Studies on their influence on the maternal psyche are also lacking. The present study examines the mental health of women with and without accommodation in a family room on an obstetric ward.113 patients filled in standardized scales on anxiety, depression, psychological well-being and post-traumatic stress symptoms 1-3 days postpartum. In addition, obstetric data of birth mode, pregnancy and birth complications were collected.

Meaningful benefit of disease-modifying treatment: Evaluating changes in health-related resource use.

INTRODUCTION: Are reductions in the rate of decline from the new disease-modifying treatments (DMTs) in early Alzheimer's disease (AD) meaningful? We examined whether such reductions may be reflected in changes in health-related resource use. METHODS: Patients with Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) = 0.5 or 1 with a clinical diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or AD, reflecting clinical trial populations. Health-related resource use was reported using the Resource Use Inventory (RUI) including direct medical care, non-medical care, unpaid informal care, and time use. RESULTS: Faster decline

The national child odontology registry (SCOR): a valuable resource for odontological and public health research.

BACKGROUND: Since 1972 The National Child Odontology Registry has collected data on the oral health of most of all Danish children and adolescents. However, comprehensive information on the registry has not previously been available, making it difficult to approach and use the registry for research purposes. METHODS: By combining historical documentation and simple descriptive statistics we provide an overview of major events in the timeline of The National Child Odontology Registry and discuss how they impact the available data. We provide a broad overview of the dental variables in the regi

Data resource profile: the allergic disease database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service.

Researchers have been interested in probing how the environmental factors associated with allergic diseases affect the use of medical services. Considering this demand, we have constructed a database, named the Allergic Disease Database, based on the National Health Insurance Database (NHID). The NHID contains information on demographic and medical service utilization for approximately 99% of the Korean population. This study targeted 3 major allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and asthma. For the target diseases, our database provides daily medical service infor

A feasibility study with process evaluation of a teacher led resource to improve measures of child health.

Previous school-based interventions have produced positive effects upon measures of children's health and wellbeing but such interventions are often delivered by external experts which result in short-term effects. Thus, upskilling and expanding the resources available to classroom teachers could provide longer-term solutions. This paper presents a feasibility study of an online health resource (Healthy Schools Resource: HSR) developed to assist primary school teachers in the delivery of health-related education. Four schools (n = 2 intervention) participated in this study. Study feasibility w

The real world cost and health resource utilization associated to manic episodes: The MANACOR study.

INTRODUCTION: Bipolar disorder is a relapsing-remitting condition affecting approximately 1-2% of the population. Even when the treatments available are effective, relapses are still very frequent. Therefore, the burden and cost associated to every new episode of the disorder have relevant implications in public health. The main objective of this study was to estimate the associated health resource consumption and direct costs of manic episodes in a real world clinical setting, taking into consideration clinical variables. METHODS: Bipolar I disorder patients who recently presented an acute m

The war-related illness and injury study centers: a resource for deployment-related health concerns.

Combat veterans often return from deployment having experienced a wide range of exposures, symptoms, and medical conditions. The Department of Veterans Affairs established war-related illness and injury study centers to serve combat veterans with unexplained illnesses. We report the exposures, clinical status, and utilization of 53 combat veterans who participated in the National Referral Program (NRP) from January 2002 until March 2004. Participants were primarily male (81%) and served in the Persian Gulf War (79%). Common diagnoses were chronic fatigue syndrome (n = 23, 43%), neurotic depres

Resource Utilization in Severe Mental Illness (SMI) Before, During and After a Psychosocial Health Promotion Program - a Shift in Resource Utilization Towards Primary Care.

Severe mental illness (SMI), such as schizophrenia, is associated with high physical health morbidity, extensive healthcare utilization, and substantial economic costs. This naturalistic study examined changes in resource utilization, measured as direct costs, following a psychosocial health promotion program (MINT) across social services and physical and psychiatric healthcare. Resource utilization patterns for 77 participants were assessed using the Resource Utilization of Mental Illness (RUMI) instrument during the 6-month intervention and a 6-month follow-up. Data were collected on physica

From standard text to simplified learning: a conceptual framework for developing adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health resources in Ghana.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents in low-resource settings often lack access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) materials that match their literacy levels. In Ghana, despite policy support for adolescent SRH education, implementation gaps persist due to the complexity of available texts. This paper presents a cyclical, theory-driven conceptual framework for developing adolescent-friendly SRH educational resources. It empirically assesses its application using evidence from a quasi-experimental study in Ghana. METHODS: This framework was developed through an iterative process, including a baseline n

The impact of family health resources on the economic risk of diseases in rural China: based on a path analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Family health resources are critical elements for rural households to withstand health shocks. However, the mechanisms through which these resources are linked to the economic risk of diseases remain unclear. Grounded in the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this study investigates the association of family health resources with the economic risk of diseases among rural households. METHODS: Utilizing data from the 2020 wave of the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), the economic risk of diseases was quantified using the Three-Stage Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) me…

Diverging trajectories of job demands, job resources, and psychological distress before long-term mental health-related sick leave among teachers.

STUDY AIMS: The prevalence of Long COVID in children and adolescents is heterogeneous, ranging from 1% to 51%, depending on the population studied. The lack of a standardised approach for establishing a Long COVID diagnosis in children and adolescents complicates the accurate assessment of prevalence, risk factors and outcomes. The present study aimed to examine the value of standardised interviews and an adjudication process to better understand self- or proxy-reported symptoms lasting longer than 12 weeks compatible with Long COVID in children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Systemic and political determinants of the global nursing and midwifery shortages: A discussion based on human resources for health data.

BACKGROUND: Nurses and midwives constitute a substantial proportion of the global health workforce and are essential to universal health coverage, maternal and newborn health, and health-system resilience. Despite workforce expansion, persistent shortages, maldistribution, gender inequities, poor working conditions, leadership gaps, and migration pressures continue to undermine both professions. The Global Burden of Disease 1990-2023 Human Resources for Health estimates provide an opportunity to examine these challenges across three decades. AIM: This discussion paper reframes global nursing

Clinician Attitudes and Perceptions of Point-of-Care Information Resources and Their Integration Into Electronic Health Records: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: Electronic health records (EHRs) are widely used in health care systems across the United States to help clinicians access patient medical histories in one central location. As medical knowledge expands, clinicians are increasingly using evidence-based point-of-care information (POCI) resources to facilitate clinical decision-making in medical practices. While these tools can improve clinical outcomes, few studies have assessed clinicians' opinions on integrating them with EHRs. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess clinicians' attitudes and the perceived value of POCI resources fo
